When a conversation between gamers comes down to listing the absolutely essential PC classics one can't simply imagine the gaming world without, inevitably Interplay games come up. Most PC gamers are dedicated Interplay fans, even if unknowingly. Even if by some strange twist of life you don't instantly recognize the label, it's an easy bet that looking at our this week's [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/interplay_weekend_promo_120413]Immortal Interplay Classics promo page you'll immediately notice at least two titles that will make you excited or nostalgic. The number of unforgettable titles in Interplay's offer here on GOG.com is simply astounding! Today, we bring you all of them with a 50% discount. Now, let's take a moment to talk about Fallout, shall we?

When it was first realesed in 1997, Fallout electrified the gaming community and proved that real depth and freedom of real-life pen-and-paper RPGs weren't that far out of reach of computer games as it was usually proclaimed. The post-nuclear wasteland became the number one destination for countless fans. The game was enormous, masterfully written, and extremely immersive. Making it even better seemed impossible. But then, in 1998, Fallout 2 came along and proved that perfection could still be improved. Larger gameworld provided even more freedom, and the variety of enemies, items, NPC, quests, and stories made it immortal. After all these years some people still stand by opinion that Fallout 2 is the best computer RPG ever created. Add Fallout Tactics on top of that, for those who think that the combat system was the best part of these games, and there you have it: the greatest classic Fallout offer possible!

But that's not all! Head out to our Immortal Interplay Classics promo page and grab yourself some of the best games ever made for the PC, 50% off on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Tuesday, April 16, at 3:59AM GMT.

Tim414: For 10 year old and older games many of these are grossly over priced.
Tim ... you've been here since 2010. You waited 2 1/2 years to say this? :-P I'm going to assume that you created an account quite a while ago and simply haven't used it much, which is okay of course.

Anyway, value ultimately depends on the purchaser.

tinyE: And THAT is the sad thing. There are so many people that want a tweeked playable Doom 1 who are content with the countless shitty pirated versions on the web. Put that bad boy in here and it would be very nice for them and for us.

011284mm: Well I would by Doom 1+2 and Quake 1+2 in a heart beat here. I can remember all those times as a child I would sit and play those along with Blake Stone. I would get up early just to play those before school.

Ah memories. Make you sad sometimes.
FYI Quake 4 comes with Quake 2 all tweeked out. Don't get me wrong, it's still just Q2 (not a remake or anything) but it's still a nice addition and it it has all the expansions.

Erich_Zann: I take it you think the Iliad or Shakespeare books are overpriced as well, since the texts are so old ?
Umm those you can get for free on gutenberg.org and others, so what was your point again, that we should pay 50$ for a digital download of old books?
I am interested in buying F/A-18E Super Hornet. While I have played several space sims, I have not played many aircraft sims. How does this game compare to other aircraft sims? What are your thoughts about the game?

SLP2000: Not released yet.

tburger: ok, thx

Licurg: Dude... If you think games like Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Sacrifice, Giants: Citizen Kabuto and MDK aren't worth 10$, you're probably not a real gamer...
avatar
tburger: What I don't get is why some people condition games' value with age? Do they say the same about books, movies or music? Some games are overpriced but not because of their age and because their quality. Jeez....
The thing is that some of these Interplay games have had their prices raised recently despite the fact that they are virtual goods and there's no new cost to the publishers. It's not as if the price of the packaging materials or postage or media just went up.

Also we are used as consumers to older products being cheaper. Just look at books, games, movies, tv series etc. When they first come out there is lots of demand and the price is high. Later the demand falls away and the products are sold cheaper.

Another point is that a lot of people on gog are buying games they already own anyway, sometimes multiple times. I own physical, genuine, original CDs of most of the games I have bought on gog. I'm basically paying the publisher again for the luxury of removing the CD-check DRM that I shouldn't have had to put up with in the first place, and could actually avoid for free if I weren't so law-abiding and afraid of malware.

That age and value don't correlate. But never mind, carry on.

But that doesn't make the games "overpriced", which would mean too expensive for their intrinsic quality. It's us who don't necessarily want to pay full price just for a backup copy.

Your own examples say that they do. So please mind, the dude minds.
Age and value correlate trust me.

I mentioned this before in a similar thread but here goes again.
I personally own 2 copies of Uncle Tom's Cabin. One is brand new and one is a few years old. One is $7.99 and one is $5000.00. Obviously age changes the price of a book.
We are talking about digital downloads, obviously the boxed version of the original Fallout costs several hundred $ now.

I did not know that. Next time I see Q4 going cheap I might grab that then. I stopped playing Quake after the specks became to high for the computer at the time.
It is really the reason I am here, to catch up with all those great games I could not afford or play back in the day.

OY, I just checked Amazon. It's "Q4 the Special DVD Edition" that has Q2 and right now it's used from $5 - $30 dependng on condition. New is over $100. I bought my copy 2 years ago for $20 but I can't remember if I got it used. Anyway this is not the thread for this conversation so I'll stop now. :)
Would anyone recommend Super Hornet? If so, why?
high rated

It kind of is, the Manual lists the full title as Descent: Freespace - The Great War

That said it plays pretty differently from Descent; it's less six-way shooter and more of a traditional space sim.

That's not to say it's not a good game, it's awesome in fact, if you're not opposed to space sims I'd definitely recommend it and if you've never gotten into space sims before it's a pretty good introduction.

The sequel's even better, or so I'm told anyway, and I hear that with a source port you can play the first Freespace campaign without the first game. So, if you're not like me and don't need to play games in order and in their original glory than I'd even say skip the first one.
