Ultimate cosmic power has never been so near!

Wizardry 8, an epic conclusion to the Dark Savant saga, successfully transferring one of the most prominent classic RPG series into the realm of modern 3D graphics and featuring 200+ hours of challenging and diverse gameplay--DRM-free on GOG.com, for only $9.99

There's a reason gamers like to refer to the classic RPGs like Wizardry or Might and Magic series, as the games of the good old times. The transition from 2D sprite-based graphics into the realm of 3D marked a distinctive line after which role-play gaming was changed for ever, and in many cases not in the way fans hoped for. Wizardry 8 was one of the very few games, that achieved a great feat--it adopted to the new era of gaming without losing its original spirit and old-school charm. When released 9 years after the previous game in the series, It was praised for staying true to what made its predecessors great and memorable. This allowed all the fans of classic Wizardry games to experience the conclusion to the Dark Savant saga in the only way they would accept as true, while keeping up with the contemporary standards.

Wizardry 8 allows you to import your party from the previous game and complete the Dark Savant trilogy in the company of old friends.Offering yet another 200 or more hours of deep, original, and satisfying gameplay it was dubbed a worthy successor of the classic series, and a well written conclusion to the entire story. So, there you have it hardcore role-playing fans--paired with Wizardry 6+7 its a classic trilogy that takes about 700 hours total to beat. Isn't that simply mindblowing?

You cannot hide nor delete a legend! Complete one of the greatest RPG sagas in existence--the story of the Dark Savant--get Wizardry 8 for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
Whelp. Backlog has rescued me from spending money... but for how many months.

How did GOG manage to get this anyway?

TheEnigmaticT: I'll poke the Product guys. I'm sure that someone in the community can give us better quality scans of the manuals that they have sitting on their shelves and then we'll go through re-approval process for the assets and everything.

tfishell: Thanks for the input. I don't want to overly-criticize you guys if you all have a lot on your plate, but the truth is people look to GOG for quality in everything, both in the games and (admittedly free) bonus content. I've seen on a few occasions in the game forums people being quite disappointed about a DOSBox setup (mainly for the sound), or about the quality of the manuals provided, or other things. (Of course, with different software/hardware combos, different things will work for different people.)

As you've stated in the past, GOG is focused on games that just plain work straight out of the box (even if it is via emulator), and besides DRM-free that should absolutely be the #1 goal in my opinion. But that attitude towards quality should be mirrored in other areas too. Obviously, with physical pages you can only make them look so good, but Spiky's opinion and a few others suggests this work NOT up to what GOG standards.

I would LOVE to help out (clean up these docs via Photoshop, etc.) but I'm wary of GOG relying so much on their fans for unpaid support. If a "grunt-work" level position ever opens up for something like this, though, LET ME KNOW. ;-)
I took my opprtunity and opened support ticket. I think it's not that hard to get result that will please everyone. We have 2 manuals in package as I mentioned earlier. All that needs to be done is replacing low quality pictures from print-friendly version by pictures of scanned manual.
Of course you could tell "if you want it, do it yourself," but I bought this game with bonus content that I care about and imho I am not asking that much.

To don't make this post look so negative, I really appreciate you managed to get Wizardry8 for us.
you know I think this was the first time GOG had two releases from the same series on the same day and I can see why they don't usually do that because now I have to choose between getting either Wizardry 6+7 or 8 now and then the other one when I get paid again..thankfully they didn't also release 1-5 or even worse any of the SSI era AD&D games or I would really be screwed.

Ha, very much this, too. The fact that GOG got this here is fantastic. I just want to support people getting their money's worth, because let's be real - people could pirate these and have since they haven't been available online ever before. GOG has set a standard to show that people can actually get their money's worth - no DRM, fixed for new machines, quality bonus content. :-)

Damn it GOG, my wishlist needs to get smaller and not bigger!!!

Although I have to be careful, have downloaded some old school RPGs and I have to see first if I really dig them ( took a short look at Lands of Lore, was, well, old :D).
...and Wiz 8 becomes an immediate purchase.

I don't suppose any of the old Sir Tech team have floated the idea of a Wiz 9 kickstarter? (I admit, I don't normally follow those...)
This is the official response from support team:
"Unfortunately this is the best quality we could get. The "printer friendly" version was taken directly from the release and we do not have the actual physical version to scan it ourselves. If we ever find a better quality version or someone donates it, of course it will be exchanged, but at this moment it is not possible."

Maybe someone with physical copy (and better scanning skills :D) will appear and make us little happier.

Doubt it. So far they seem content with what they are doing, at least those that posted in the Bear's Pit for Jagged Alliance.
GOG could give us all pure gold but someone will complain about something.
Well. Never knew about this game. But good I guess ? and also we got an explanation about chaos overlords release. Now.. I guess I can stop checking GOG for a week.
Thank you GoG for bringing these CRPG's back to gamers everywhere. Pretty much all of my gaming today is based on these games. The way I look at a game, feel about a game, etc...it all started with Wizardry 1 on an Apple IIE back in 1982/3.

Everyone RPG'amer alive should experience this entire series. It is by far the best series I have ever played.

BTW - I still have my original stuff from 7 & 8. I also have the cluebook for Wiz7. It is pretty beat up but still readable.

Thanks GOG! While I won't have time to play these games for a while, I always find it interesting to hear more about these games history. It's like discovering treasures from the past and helps me gain a greater appreciation for all the work you guys do with the classic games on here. Keep up the good work, and maybe eventually we'll see the first 5 games on her someday as well!
Dammit GOG, you did it again. Your fetish for 3dfx is black-bordering and forcing a 4:3 aspect ratio.... I strongly think that Direct X should be the default, not 3dfx...
Jeeze. Wizardry 8 is a great game but man oh man do you get swarmed by enemies. Don't think I ever finished it - got ground down by a million battles.
By the way, I don't know for how long they are doing this, but it's pretty cool!
