Is your body ready to waste away in front of your computer?

Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, inXile's epic post-apocalyptic RPG is here! The masterfully crafted continuation to the 1988s original post-apocalyptic RPG, is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux on GOG.com, for $59.99*.

Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, is the direct sequel to 1988’s Wasteland, the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG and the inspiration behind the Fallout series. Until Wasteland, no other cRPG had ever allowed players to control and command individual party members for tactical purposes or given them the chance to make moral choices that would directly affect the world around them. Wasteland was a pioneer in multi-path problem solving, dripping in choice and consequence and eschewing the typical one-key-per-lock puzzle solving methods of its peers, in favor of putting the power into players’ hands to advance based on their own particular play style. Now, the legend is back, resurrected by the power of thousands of gamers' combined will to visit the grim and dangerous, yet strangely mesmerizing future once again. Today, we celebrate nonlinearity, mature storytelling, and other best traditions of computer RPG design. Brian Fargo and his inXile team opens the doors to the post-apocalyptic future: let's challenge its many dangers, together!

On GOG.com Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition comes complete with a free copy of Wasteland - The Original Classic and inXile's cult fantasy RPG, The Bard's Tale. *$59.99 is the regular price for this title in the US. Other prices will apply in different countries. If you end up paying more than than the US price, we will reimburse the difference from our own pocket, giving it back to you in store credit (this is what we call the "Fair Price Package"). If you only want to dip your feet before taking the plunge, there's a Wasteland 2 Digital Classic Edition available (US price: $39.99), and it can be upgraded to Deluxe Edition later.

skinandbones13: Once again, the reviews for this on GOG make me go hmmmmmm. Are the complaints legit or is it more overblown BS? Like the person who has posted a review just to claim that they can't actaully download a 12gb file?
avatar
hedwards: I posted that and I did eventually manage to get it to download after nearly 2 days of trying. Thankfully the file doesn't seem to have been corrupted during the process.

I saw that a lot of assholes chose to downvote the review, but it's a valid criticism of the game that people ought to know about before they buy it. I was not expecting to be left with a single file and no ability to use the GOG downloader to get it.

The game itself is fairly good so far, as long as you're OK with the graphics and your connection can handle the download. But, it can be rage inducing if something causes the download to be corrupted and you have to find a download manager that's able to handle it. Free Download Manager didn't get the job done for me.

All in all I downloaded roughly 30 gigs in order to get a copy that worked. Or, I think so, at a certain point I lost track of how many times I had downloaded the same file to get it to complete.

EDIT: Also, what's so far fetched about a 12gb file being incredibly hard to download. Does everybody really have connections that are that much better than mine?
I am glad you managed to download it in the end but don't you think that is more an issue with GOG where your game files are stored rather than with the game developers?

Those "assholes" that down voted your review probably saw that your complaint lay with the GOG itself; that was my whole point that it is misleading to people who are considering buying the game. Thank god for those assholes! :-P
So I just finished the "Angel Oracle" area/faction and that sure was weird, good writing though.
Can't believe I missed this series. Seems like awesome fun. Hopefully in Year End Sale one can get a bit of a discount for this one.

If I can't use a game that I've bought that's relevant to the question of whether or not I should be paying for it. This is fundamentally no different from Blood 2 that's horribly broken to the point where you can't play it with the wrong GPU brand.

It's something that potential buyers need to be aware of and yes, they are assholes. As I've noted it's completely relevant to the question of whether or not to buy the game that it might not be possible to successfully download it if your connection isn't completely pristine. And for individuals who have a capped connection it might not be worth downloading the game multiple times in order to get a copy that functions.
GOG are doing it wrong imo. They should be pushing the Wasteland 2 Classic Edition 1st and the Deluxe Edition 2nd, not the other away around.

You go to the Deluxe Edition page and there is no mention of a Classic Edition except for the original game. You go to the Wasteland 2 Classic Edition page and there is no mention of the DLC upgrade or the Deluxe Edition.

Until yesterday or day before, I don't think you could find the Wasteland 2 Classic Edition on the front page. It's underneath the scrolling "WHAT"S NEW" ads now, at least whenever I visit. GOG shouldn't just assume that everyone visiting the site either reads the announcements or does a search.

I knew it was there, but I have a hard time actually finding it. I wonder how many sales their losing because people can't find the classic edition and aren't willing to shell out for the deluxe.

EDIT: Weird, they must have had a bug or something because it's working now.

They've lost some, I'll bet on that. There's been several complaints in this thread about the cost of it, and I know of one member that came back later and said that he/she was unaware of it.

This is one of the best games available on GoG. I'd have paid 100 USD for it.

No. The example you give, Blood 2, is completely different to your issue with Wasteland 2.

It is an issue either for GOG, as the game files are stored on their servers, the cap on your internet which is your ISP, or the hardware on your computer. Did you investigate these avenues first before posting your misleading and knee jerk one star review and labeling anyone else who questions you an asshole?

"13 of 174 users found this helpful" = 161 assholes and counting.

Strongly agree. Should always push the cheaper, normal edition up first since players who aren't following/interested in the game since pre-production and are interested in turn-based RPGs will be more interested to try the cheaper version if going for full-price purchases.
I've got several questions about this game before I seriously consider purchasing it.

How are the story and dialogues? So far all reviews I've read focus only on combat. Does this mean this is a combat-centric game akin to similar tactical squad-based shooters (Fallout Tactics, JA2), which had only sporadic and rudimentary dialogue? Or are there long, branching dialogues that can rival those in Fallout (2)? And are there any significant choices & consequences beyond the agricultural centre / water centre that every review seems to mention?

If the game is almost all combat – meaning moving from one combat encounter to another with very little to do in-between – it may not exactly be the game for me.

1. of course not, this game is heavy on story and dialogues... not sure about branching, I've only noticed one situation when my chosen topic in dialogue restricted all the others, but it was skill-associated: I was able to respond to someone in an aggressive/smart way, and I chose one, made the person pissed, and the other was locked (obviously)... but I doubt such things will have a lot of consequence, there are no reputations and the person was a quest-giver, so obviously you can talk to him after that with no problems

2. but it is, kind of... you have a big map with smaller locations on it... you travel between them (there's not much apart from random combat encounters), and in the locations you quest, talk to people, and fight

Yes, there are. And often there is no good choice (mad fanatics, paramilitary assholes or complete chaos?). Innocent casualties caused by your lack of skill, unforseen consequences of your actions, everything you may wish for.
The game is a little too combat heavy for my taste but I guess Wasteland is just a rough place...
