In space no one can hear you go "BRAAAINZZZZ!"

Space Pirates and Zombies (And Bounty Hunters!), a.k.a. SPAZ, a robust top-down space combat game with tactical depth and a new procedurally generated galaxy to explore with each playthrough, is available 75% off for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, on GOG.com. That's only $2.49 for the first three days!

Space Pirates and Zombies is an action based, skill oriented, top down space combat game. It’s similar to the ones we knew and loved in years past, but now using full physics simulation and modern graphics for those oh so pretty explosions. But as you dig deeper, SPAZ becomes much more. Instead of flying a single ship, you are in charge of an ever growing and evolving fleet, unlocking the rich tactical elements of SPAZ, all accessed at the touch of a button. Issue orders, change ships, apply fleet AI settings, all on the fly. At any moment the battle can change, and the Tactics Panel gives you the tools to make the battle turn in your favor. As a layer on top of the action and tactics, we have a detailed technology and levelup system akin to what you would expect from an RPG. Learn to build new ships by destroying your enemies. Explore the galaxy to find components, use your hard earned research points to unlock their potential, and then customize every aspect of your new fleet. Finally, there is the universe in which all this strife and adventure takes place. SPAZ features a persistent randomly generated Galaxy populated with story elements, factions, enemies, missions, items, to provide you with a unique experience each time you play. While you are struggling to survive, uncover the secret of an ever expanding Zombie infestation that spreads by establishing its own real time multi-tiered ecosystem.

Set out for the ultimate space crusade against the undead in Space Pirates and Zombies, for only $2.49 on GOG.com. The 75% off special release discount offer lasts until Sunday, July 27, at 9:59AM GMT.

rtcvb32: I've been waiting for this to come to GoG :) And for $2.50, i think i'll get it...

One question. Does it include any mods? There's the BigBeef one that i rather enjoyed, as well as a few variants on the game that can make it more difficult or change the mechanics of how you approach the game.
No, no mods :)

JudasIscariot: No, no mods :)

rtcvb32: Awww :( The mods i thought added quite a bit of extra gameplay to it, and they were fan-made. (Of course they didn't actually change any of the plot or anything)

Could you add them as an extra? I have basically a zip already ready that includes three or four...
Are they official developer-made mods (kind of like the Super Space Defenders mod for Defender's Quest) ? Otherwise, no, sorry we can't host fan-made material :(

rtcvb32: No. The only developer ones were the Christmas and Halloween mods (which just added spiderwebs and other side effects).

I'll understand not being able to host fan made material, although i'm sure if there was a license or release in the mod saying you could freely redistribute at no cost (you're not selling it afterall). But i see where it's going.

Sacr3dus: But mods are available to download on official page...
avatar
rtcvb32: I had to scour the fourms on SPAZ to find the mods...

Guess i lied... There IS a second question... When Spaz2 comes out, will GoG have it as well??
I am not 100% sure as I haven't played the game in a week or so but I could have sworn that the Christmas and Halloween mods were part of the game itself somehow. Again, i am not completely sure sure so I could be wrong.

tinyE: This looks amazing but I'm a little confused as to the gameplay (not that this will keep me from getting it :P) but is it RTS, TBS, a pure shooter, and arcade shooter (the look reminds me a little of the arcade classics Time Pilot and Asteroids)? It says you're fleet gets bigger and bigger so is it pause & play?
It's not an RTS, actually. It's more like a real time version of Space Rangers without the text adventures and planetary battles.

Ship movement is basically physics-based so the bigger the ship, the slower it is unless you invest in better engines and the like. Your fleet does get bigger but it doesn't get to the size you would expect in an RTS or anything like that.

tinyE: Huge Space Rangers fan here so I'm in.
Just so you know, the game randomly generates the universe every time you play a new game.

Also, the world is open but you have to either fight or bribe your way past security controls in order to move to the next star :)
