Very interesting release. I'm a bit torn between the recently added (Linux version of) Desktop Dungeons and this. And my CC needs a rest :(

Definitely buying both eventually.

Total 24 tracks (133 MB), very atmospheric soundtrack!

If you can wait until Saturday, I'll be happy to write a review for the game but I'm only a couple missions into the game and I prefer to finish the game and reflect on things a bit before shooting away with a review - that way it might actually be useful to someone.

The game is on sale until October 30th so there is no need to hurry, it's perfectly ok to wait until there are more (and more balanced) reviews! I spontaneously decided to get the game without thinking much about it but it would be my pleasure to answer any questions and help anyone "on the fence" with deciding if it is a game that they might enjoy or not.

EDIT: it's going to take me a bit longer to finish this, I don't think I'm close to completion yet. Definitely getting my money's worth here, but then again I'm not a rush-through person so others might spend much less time on the game.

Beautiful game, albeit the battles can get kind of repetitive and dull and I don't find them as rewarding as battles for example in Shadowrun. I would've easily picked this up for a second time for the soundtrack alone would've been in better (FLAC) quality.

The soundtrack is also available on Bandcamp (which requires PayPal, not an option for me):

Buenro-games: I'm curious about the music in the trailer. Anyone know its origin?
avatar
viperfdl: I guess it's a variation of the main theme.
Thank you for the link to the soundtrack page. I am very surprised that this is all original music used in the trailer. Seems like a very good deal to get the game and the soundtrack with it.
high rated
Just wanted to say thank you in general for all the kind words regarding the soundtrack, and hope everyone is enjoying the game!
This game got me curious. Wishlisted. One of this days I'll get an international credit card and my wishlist will dissappear... just like any funds I may have at the moment xD

Are you the composer? If yes, then great job indeed! I'm about halfway into Halfway now and enjoying it so far but I can't say anything conclusive before completion. I'm going all the way with Halfway :) But the presentation is tops, no doubt about that.

Seems so, https://gavinharrisonsounds.bandcamp.com/album/halfway-original-soundtrack
Soundtrack is rather nice and laid back. Definitely would buy here for the extra.
Hopefully if there is additional content/expansions we'll see more upbeat songs like 'Halfway' and the battle versions.

Thanks for that :). Will definitely grab this game before the promo finishes up. Listening to the soundtrack from the bandcamp link -- sounds pretty good to me (call me weird but i find it very Blade Runnerish? hehehe) :).

Thank you for creating such an awesome soundtrack (and allowing GOG to supply the mp3 version as a bonus) :).

Please do, you won't regret it! It's worth every penny.

I'm close to finishing Halfway and definitely recommend the game. Been working on an in-depth review since Friday, I'm taking things slowly to savor the experience plus I don't have all day to play the game so it's taking a lot longer than I expected.
As I mentioned earlier, I can't make any conclusive statements before finishing the game but I can say that I must disagree with the current top review on the store page that gives only 3 lousy stars and says "this made me cry as a tactical gamer".

If anything, I would make me cry out of joy

I didn't downvote the review (I never do, unless it's spam) but I must point out that 3 stars is too low. My current impression close to the end game is that objectively rated this is at the very least a solid 4 stars game. 4,5 stars if you're willing to forgive some minor flaws and 5 stars if you take into account that this is an indie game and that strategy games are arguably the number one hardest to develop and they did an impressive job here.

EDIT: I'll post my review in the "Games Finished in 2014" thread as the store page limits reviews to 2000 characters and I have more than that to say about this game.

ShadowWulfe: Damn. Might have to get this one. I need a break GOG!
Yes you do, trust your feelings! :)

avatar
Kunovski: this game looks pretty much like Jagged Alliance in space... is it like a Jagged Alliance in space? in that case I might be interested :o)
In terms of Gameplay, this is more similar to Incubation and Gorky 17 in that you're following a linear progression of missions and there's an element of survival horror.

avatar
IronArcturus: Does anyone know if Halfway has randomized levels?
No randomized levels, they were all hand-crafted. Most levels do feel a bit generic and repetitive though so there isn't a lot of variety but the game manages to keep you immersed with its smooth gameplay and the nice dark & cozy sci-fi atmosphere.

Cyraxpt: I stopped playing because i was having a problem with the game randomly shutting down and i was waiting for a patch. Today i updated the game and BE WARNED there's some kind of sound problem with the game, at least with Steam version, not sure about gog.
I playtested the living crap out of the GOG version of this game on an aging low-end laptop and encountered zero technical problems, glitches or bugs. Nice & clean release, very satisfied.

CharlesGrey: Hm... looks halfway decent.

To buy or not to buy...
avatar
Corwim: Now this one looks very interesting! Want to have a look at some reviews first though, so wishlisted for now.
avatar
TctclMvPhase: Looks cool and it has Linux support!

Still going to wait for a review or two, but its definitely wishlisted.
I finished the game yesterday and wrote a full review which I posted here:

For the sake of not spoiling the plot, I sent you a PM - want to ask you which mission you had trouble with.
There was only one mission that made me curse out loud but fortunately it's a short mission and at the 3rd attempt it went surprisingly well, other than that I thought it was fairly smooth sailing.
Bought!!.Lets see how this goes :)
