Everyday items can tell an unbelievable story.

Gone Home, an interactive exploration simulator designed to delight the voyeuristic side of our personality, is available 75% off for Windows Mac OS X and Linux, on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first 48 hours!

7th, 1995. 1:15 AM. You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company. Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

In Gone Home you'll return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience. Discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore. This is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated.

If you're looking for an entirely different interactive experience that'll take you on an emotional trip, make sure to pick up Gone Home, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The special 75% off release discount lasts only until Thursday, August 14, at 9:59AM GMT.
I already got this from Steam sale.

It's a nice little exploring game. I don't know why people complain about this game. Store pages both here and on Steam tell exactly what to expect. If you don't bother to read the game's description from the store page (also reading few detailed reviews helps), then it's your own fault if you end up disappointed.

When I first heard about this game I was really looking forward to playing it. Since then I have heard lots of negative things about the game.

Thank you GOG for bringing the game to your site. Now I can try it DRM free and at a great price.

Toast_burner: If it's about the story being badly written then why not say that? Where is political correctness coming into play? If you read the reviews you would see why people liked the game. Just because you don't like it that doesn't mean it's bad.
Yes it is bad.

Toast_burner: That second paragraph... seriously? Are you really that ignorant? You do realise that it was illegal to be gay in many states in America until 2003. People are still being murdered for being LGBT (especially T). And why are you even bringing this up? This is a discussion about a game that has nothing to do with politics. It's telling a story about two people in love.
No it's not about two people in love. RedLetterMedia did this thing in their Star Wars reviews where they had people describe the movie's main characters without describing what they look like or what they do. It worked very well for the original trilogy, but it was impossible in for The Phantom Menace. Same thing here, how much can you tell me about the characters without mentioning what they look like and what they do?

This story is nothing but LGBT pandering and that's what repels people. If it make you feel better, people would feel the same if it was pandering about any other topic as well. As far as LGBT rights go, in most countries these people are protected by the same rights as anyone else. it is illegal to kill a person for any reason, including being LGBT. It is illegal to discriminate people for any reasons, including being LGBT. It's not about human rights, it's about political agendas.

Hey, finally, great release! :) Now get Proteus and Dear Esther on here to bring in all the "it's not a game" haters the GOG community has been missing for a while :P

Toast_burner: again how is it political? Why is a gay couple political but a straight couple isn't?

I find it odd that you keep claiming that the characters are defined by their sexuality. It does show that they have their own interests and personalities. You just ignored all of that. And why did you ignore my point about To the Moon? The defining characteristic of the old man is his sexuality, is that also politically correct bullshit?
You mean the 90's pop culture stuff thrown in there for flavor text and as little more than a footnote? Yeah, seriously powerful character defining stuff there...

I ignored your question because I haven't played To the Moon.

There is nothing of any real substance to Gone Home. It's little more than reality television in "game" form. That, along with thinking they were getting a horror game and the price-to-content ratio, are the problems alot of people have with it. Are you so utterly naive to think that if the game's plot focus was replaced with a heterosexual white male it would be just as critically acclaimed? Politics played a big role in Gone Home's popularity whether you are willing to admit it or not.

Wasn't there some kind of drama around the creator of the game as well?
I might be confusing it with another game though.

So what is the political agenda? what's so political about having a story about two girls in love? And what's wrong with "pandering" to gays? There are tons of games that "pander" to straight people.

Why is it ok to have a game about a straight relationship but wrong to have one about a gay relationship?

Blacks are also protected by the same rights as anyone else. Your argument really makes no sense. Nobody mentioned black or woman rights, why did you feel the need to bring it up?

So your problem with the game is that it was popular?
If there is nothing in the game about politics why was your main complaint about it that it's nothing but political bullshit? seems rather unfair to complain about the game because other people gave it high reviews. The devs didn't choose what the reviews say.

I believe you're thinking of Chloe Segal and Homesick.

Could very well be and the 'Home' in the title would explain my 'confusion' as it were.
Thanks GOG Team for bringing this game here - I was thinking some time ago about buying this one - great graphics, awesome exploration, reviewers loved this one. I was told by a friend of mine that the biggest minus of this game is the length - you can complete it in an hour or so... However now I'm happy with short games sine my backlog became huge and it's still growing... Anyway once again thanks for this game!
Just a quick side note, before this thread completely deteriorates into a gender politics flame war:

GOG, PLEASE, for your own sake fix the price displays on the main page! Even if a game is discounted at launch, the price that is displayed is often the full price, rather than the discounted price. It turns away customers and could potentially be DEADLY with Day 1 launch titles like "Trails in the Sky" (Potential customers take one look at the main page and go "Why should I pay the full $20 here, when it's 15% off on Steam?", even though it really is actually 15% off here as well.)

I already bought it from Humble, but I really enjoyed it and this is a very good starting price! :)

This has been fixed and hour ago no need to point that out again.

If it was fixed an hour ago, then why was I able to take that screenshot 10 minutes ago?

It does display the correct price most of the time, but it still displays the full price quite often. And this happens with every single discounted game on the front page spread. It's some weird bug they really need to fix.
