Everyday items can tell an unbelievable story.

Gone Home, an interactive exploration simulator designed to delight the voyeuristic side of our personality, is available 75% off for Windows Mac OS X and Linux, on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first 48 hours!

7th, 1995. 1:15 AM. You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company. Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

In Gone Home you'll return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience. Discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore. This is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated.

If you're looking for an entirely different interactive experience that'll take you on an emotional trip, make sure to pick up Gone Home, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The special 75% off release discount lasts only until Thursday, August 14, at 9:59AM GMT.
This is the hardest game on GOG.
Because it involves empathizing with privileged teenage assholes.

Niggles: Good one!!!.
Im still wondering what the fuss is about (never played it though).....?

Magmarock: I haven't actually gotten around to playing it :O I bought it again because I like all my games to be in one place.
Like under the bed? Though they get very dusty if you leave them untouched for a while.
Not my cup of tea and I'm not sure if a lot of people will be prepared to pay the high price for it. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

EDIT: Also fix the advert on the main page it shows full price instead of discounted price and that's why I wrote the above text since I was minsinformed about the price.

Finally it's here, didn't really expect that at all. Gone Home is one of the best games ever made, especially if you were a teenager in the 90's then you can relate to a lot of stuff. It has a huge nostalgia factor and me personally it was really interesting to explore.

There's been a lot of good releases lately so keep up the good work GOG! More games like this please :) Only wish there were announcements that games are coming so it's possible to do some planning, what game to get and when.
I really enjoyed puzzling together the personal stories in Ether One by reading things and looking at the environment, even if it didn't have any gameplay impact. Will I enjoy this?

Probably. That's exactly what Gone Home is. Just walking around piecing together very personal stories.

no puzzles here, just walking around the house, looking for and reading clues and unfolding the story...

but you can try for 5 bucks and couple hours of your time :)

I loved it, the story, the music and the feel of the house, but man, I've never read SO MANY comments saying that this is not a game and that it doesn't deserve to exist... I think it kind of stepped on some toes, somehow :D

Thanks guys! That sounds lovely, definitely picking this up then. I don't get all the hate for `walking simulators' (which is turning out to be a more and more useful tag on steam :P ) either. Just because the interaction with the game is on the level of changing what you know instead of on the level of changing the game state doesn't mean it can't be fun or interactive.
low rated
So, you'll let this gutter trash on here, but not Thomas Was Alone? Mm'k, sure GOG...

triock: I must say, I really enjoyed this game, although it's not for everyone, don't really understand all the b*tching about it.
Maybe because it's hilariously short for the base $20 price tag. Maybe because it, debatably, does not qualify as an actual game. Or perhaps because the entire thing is a badly written exercise in politically correct bullshit and, purely because of it's political correctness, wound-up completely overshadowing at least one far superior indie game released that same year titled The Swapper...

So having gay people in a game = politically correct bullshit? That's not homophobic at all...
Is allowing gay people to hold hands in public also politically correct bullshit? Should we go the way of Russia or Uganda lest we become a nation of politically correct bullshitters?

bought it for 20 and didn't regret it :) it's different, and I like different...

mind you, I liked The Swapper a lot too, but never finished it as it's just another puzzle platformer, although the mechanics and philosophy of it is really, really great :)

I think the main problem is neither the (lack of) gameplay nor the subject matter, but the simple fact that it has been praised to high heaven by game journos. I'm not surprised that people tend to get pissed when they realize this is a 1.5 hour walking simulator after they've coughed up $20 for a game that has been lauded pretty much across the board as a ground-breaking masterpiece. Personally, I enjoyed the game for what it is, but at the same time, I can't help but shake my head at the gushing praise it received.

Questions!

1) Does it include the Developer Commentary Mode?

2) Why is the soundtrack not available? I'm not asking for it to be a free extra since the creator is selling it seperately, but I sure as heck would appreciate the option to buy it on GOG (with zero DRM) instead of having to go to Steam for it.
