BreOl72: Installed the game on my (non-gaming) Laptop - it runs absolutely playable...could maybe run a little better, but -like I said- it's no gaming Laptop, so - after reading so many complaints - I am surprised, it runs at all. ;o)

And on my gaming PC, it should definitely run like a charm.
Hell, I'm even getting used to the controls :)
Love the game!
Is the only real issue the resolution and all that?

I mean, are the controls fine, does the game run, ect?

I may end up getting this later when it's cheaper and when I'm not busy with school stuff.

Mostly, from reading Steam forums.

I don't like 'Q for forward' - other than that, it's OK. Some people are (probably rightly) unhappy about lack of controller support - not an issue for me, as I don't have a controller and I'm a mouse and keyboard gamer..

It's well worth it.
I wish there was a demo. On the one hand, having watched a few random (all rather off-putting, to be perfectly honest) gameplay videos, I'm having a hard time grasping the core concept behind Deadly Premonition, its appeal remains a mystery to me for the time being - but on the other hand, the fact it's been so warmly received leaves me intrigued.

Am I making the mistake of judging a book by its cover? Or is it merely a case of "so bad, it's good"? Is there a rational explanation for this multifaceted phenomenon? Cure my ignorance, please!

For me, it's just two words: Twin. Peaks.
This game is one big tribute to the series, and it has its own unique and enjoyable storyline - the gameplay is good enough to keep you enjoying the story.

Twin Peaks: the game. Odd characters, weird plot. Roam freely and eat your pickles. Go fishing, listen to ghost stories, try a turkey-and-strawberry sandwich. Get paid for shaving and changing into a fresh suit.
Combat is rather bland, especially since the game has no shortage of infinite ammo guns. Also, the DC edition is locked into the Easy difficulty of the original.

kevinlettuce: Does anyone know if this game actually works on Windows XP? On Steam it has the requirements as Vista/7.
I just got the game and played it 30 minutes on my old Core2Duo running Windows XP SP3, and it has been running fine so far. I'm hoping it will stay this way.

I'm definitely enjoying the game so far, with its mix of Twin Peaks atmosphere and Resident Evil 4-lite gameplay.

It's the kind of game you just sort of immerse yourself in. You wander around, just doing whatever, seeing the sights, but there's still a good storyline for you to come back to when you want to move things along. It manages to be a fantastic Twin Peaks homage without being a 1:1 ripoff.

When I played it on the Xbox, I liked to go around and look at the suspects' houses. You can actually gather clues on the mystery that way, even though the game doesn't actually reward you for it. You just get the satisfaction of observing something interesting and feeling smart when things play out later and you see that your conclusions were correct.

SCPM: It's so great to see this on GOG as a (sort-of) day one release!

avatar
Tarhiel: Hm... no extras on this one? Not even a wallpaper?
That´s unexpected - first game I see here like that.
Did publisher disagreed?
avatar
SCPM: Not sure how it works, maybe the release was on really short notice? But it happens, for example Teen Agent never had any extras.
Ah, didn´t knew that, thanks for pointing that out.
Well, but I suppose they will add something later.
Meh, Will wait until it is $5.99 looks real average these types of games make me laugh!
Tried it a bit. It runs fine for me in Windows 8.1, but yeah, I can't really get any meaningful gamepad support from the game with my Logitech F310. If I use F310 in XInput (XBox360) mode, it doesn't really seem to do anything in the game. If I use F310 in the legacy DirectInput mode, some buttons seem to do something (e.g. turn on flashlight), but analog sticks seem dead, and if I merely touch the D-pad, the game menu goes crazy as if the gamepad is uncalibrated.

And since all the hints tell how to play the game with keyboard (press E etc.), it seems obvious the PC version is really designed for keyboard + mouse, not gamepad. It seems quite playable with kb+m, but I feel it could be more suitable for gamepad play, if it supported the analog sticks for movement etc. Oh well, I guess I will play it with keyboard + mouse, no biggie.

The game and its graphics has this odd PS2 feel to it. If someone had said this is a PC port of a PS2 game (rather than a PS3/XBox360 game), I wouldn't have doubted at all. Like how the textures are quite low resolution, and shimmer when moving in a way as if there is no texture mipmapping used. I don't know if this is partly due to being locked to 720p, but I have tried running some other games in 720p without similar effect, so I don't think it is that.

The game story and setting seem quite odd, partly in a good way. Comparisons to Twin Peaks seem apt.

From what I read about the game it seemed to have started life as a PS2 game but don't quote me on that :)

There was this comment, so it is possible that the multiple axis do confuse it. Try pressing the mode button on the F310 to switch d-pad with analogue, and see if that makes the analogue stick work.

Doubt it, but just curious. Alternatively, wait for a patch that should be coming soon-ish.
It Was a PS2 game but then they ported it at the last minute to the Xbox 360 / PS3 that's why the graphics are weird! y'know all plastic looking

I remember back in 2007 or around that time frame they were developing it for ps2

Ooooo! it's at the same price as it is on Shteam! DON'T GET IT ON SHTEAM it come with 60 shteam achievements got I HATE achievements! I hate the way they mix them in with the natural progression of the games that SO SUCKS!

Maybe I was a bit too harsh with my description though. If it was a PS2 game, it would be an exceptionally good looking PS2 game, especially the face details. It is not really an ugly game or anything. :)
