It's BIG.

Avadon 2: The Corruption, a stand-alone open-ended adventure in a huge world, with all the best features we grew to expect from a truly old-school computer RPG, is available 25% off on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac. That's only $7.49 for the first week.

You are an agent of Avadon. The Black Fortress. Your job is to protect your homeland from the limitless threats that surround it. Titans. Monsters. Barbarians. Fading, jealous empires. The warriors and spies of Avadon must keep them weak and divided. Your resources are unlimited, and all must obey you. But then Avadon was attacked. A sneak raid shattered the fortress, and, with it unable to keep order, madness has resulted. Civil war, barbarian raids, even conspiracies to destroy your people. The Fortress' power and influence has faded, and yet your people need it more than ever.Everything is falling apart, and a shadowy power has risen to destroy your homeland. What will you do? Will you fight your enemies? Or will you join them and end Avadon’s reign once and for all? The choice is yours!

Avadon 2: The Corruption continues the best tradition of Spiderweb Software computer role-playing games. Not unlike the Avernum and Geneforge series, here too we are presented with an epic-scaled, detailed, and original gameworld full of possibilities. Pair that with clear isometric graphics, classic turn-based gameplay mechanics, and tons of items, spells, and character abilities, and what you get is a game so involving and satisfying, that it will make every true classic cRPG fan's head spin. Finish off with a gripping story, reactive narrative, and dozens of hours worth of quests and side missions--there you go: old-school RPG perfection.

Immerse yourself in the huge gameworld, and begin your non-linear true RPG experience in Jeff Vogel's newest epic RPG, Avadon 2: The Corruption, for only $7.49 on GOG.com. The 25% release discount offer lasts until Wednesday, November 6, at 9:59AM GMT.
Not really, the environmental graphics are beautiful, has this nice detailed/soft tiled look, like Age of Empires II in super high-res. The game doesn't have in-game music but this atmospheric environmental sounds which are in many ways better. And it's also turn-based which is always good.

I just find Vogel's recent games as a waste of opportunity, they have everything necessary to be a great hardcore RPG, yet for some reason they have gutted character systems with no customization at chargen and character development is also very shallow. Vogel's recent games even have a "Casual" difficulty setting, so with all this one can only conclude that he's chasing a different audience.

I could be wrong, but wasn't the Avadon trilogy meant to be an easier one?

He said this?
Dear Spiderweb Software,

Please implement better graphical and audio assets. Seriously, you're killing me with such huge disparities in quality! Give the rest of the game the shiny buff it so clearly deserves!

The graphics and audio are basically the highest quality thing about the game

Well, aside from the decisions he's made, he does state on his blog that the Avadon series is going to be easier than some of his (then) recent games.

Wow, you must really hate this game, then. For me, it's like a beautiful book telling a story in the land of clipart.

I don't hate it, I just think the Avadon games are mediocre (the actual meaning of the word) compared to Avernum or certainly Exile series. Also clipart, seriously? If you want to criticize a Spiderweb game of using clipart graphics you should mention Nethergate or the early Avernum games, because much of the art in them actually DID look like it was lifted from MS Word clipart or knocked up in Paint.

This game has high quality graphics, I mean are you blind? The portraits are essentially at the same level of detail as Baldur's Gate, and the isometric environments are just plain nice. And as for the writing:

Not to sideline this thread, but I'm just curious as to where you feel the Geneforge series fits in, quality-wise (if you've played them)? I bought them a long time ago, but haven't yet really delved into them.

Most of my GOGs have inferior graphics to this but I don't complain about them because the aesthetic is still pleasing/appropriate. The whole style of Avadon is bland and repetitive for me. It gets most of my attention because this series is the most recent and I expected it to come further than it did. I stayed for the story and turn-based combat.

But yes, thanks for the screenie. That's some awful romance! :D

Silke is just nervous. I'd travel with her and then some. ;-)
Interestingly, if you play a female character, Silke is replaced by a male scout. Someone should tell Vogel that Bioware is never going to hire him until he stops showing such blatant homophobia! :)

Oh right, you mean the generic high fantasy stuff? If so I completely agree with that, I was referring just to the details/fidelity of the isometric maps. I really don't get why studios keep going with high fantasy nowadays tbh, you could replace Avadon's setting with something post-apocalyptic, replace the Ogres and Wretches with mutants, replace magic with guns, and even with the same quality of writing it would be vastly better.

Lol, you'll find there's no-one on the dex under my name :)

True, but "Vogel that Bioware is never going to hire him" is commonly heard there. I know, I am a Codexer :D
