It's BIG.

Avadon 2: The Corruption, a stand-alone open-ended adventure in a huge world, with all the best features we grew to expect from a truly old-school computer RPG, is available 25% off on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac. That's only $7.49 for the first week.

You are an agent of Avadon. The Black Fortress. Your job is to protect your homeland from the limitless threats that surround it. Titans. Monsters. Barbarians. Fading, jealous empires. The warriors and spies of Avadon must keep them weak and divided. Your resources are unlimited, and all must obey you. But then Avadon was attacked. A sneak raid shattered the fortress, and, with it unable to keep order, madness has resulted. Civil war, barbarian raids, even conspiracies to destroy your people. The Fortress' power and influence has faded, and yet your people need it more than ever.Everything is falling apart, and a shadowy power has risen to destroy your homeland. What will you do? Will you fight your enemies? Or will you join them and end Avadon’s reign once and for all? The choice is yours!

Avadon 2: The Corruption continues the best tradition of Spiderweb Software computer role-playing games. Not unlike the Avernum and Geneforge series, here too we are presented with an epic-scaled, detailed, and original gameworld full of possibilities. Pair that with clear isometric graphics, classic turn-based gameplay mechanics, and tons of items, spells, and character abilities, and what you get is a game so involving and satisfying, that it will make every true classic cRPG fan's head spin. Finish off with a gripping story, reactive narrative, and dozens of hours worth of quests and side missions--there you go: old-school RPG perfection.

Immerse yourself in the huge gameworld, and begin your non-linear true RPG experience in Jeff Vogel's newest epic RPG, Avadon 2: The Corruption, for only $7.49 on GOG.com. The 25% release discount offer lasts until Wednesday, November 6, at 9:59AM GMT.
Nice. Putting it on my wishlist for now. I still have to get through Avernum 5+6, the later Geneforge games, AND the first Avadon before I'm biting.

That said, I'm hoping GOG will eventually sell the Avernum remake. The original trilogy is just a tad bit too dated for my tastes.

nijuu: Do you need to finish the first one to enjoy the second?
Nope, all his games are pretty much self-contained stories, but it's nice having knowledge of certain references to characters/events of earlier games have some meaning.

That said, as usual you can give the trial version, which tend to be pretty big where SS is concerned, a spin by downloading it from his site.
A great release!

I read somewhere that GOG rejected Nethergate, as well as the Avernum remake. I think it was straight from the mouthpiece of the Vogel. I don't have the link with me... but yah (check the Avernum/Geneforge forums).

As for this, definite instabuy, did not realize that it was coming out today. Now I have something to look forward to if I survive neuro.
In other news: It's currently 50 cents cheaper on GOG than on Steam. Whooo! The savings! ... Pfft. =P

Sounds quite odd to me. Are you sure about that? I would have assumed the Avernum remake hadn't been released at the time since GOG just added the Avernum Saga to the catalog... but never? Doubtful. As for Nethergate. *shrug* I wouldn't be opposed to it showing up here, but I may not despair if it doesn't.
I was a beta tester for this and can wholeheartedly recommend it.
My wishlist keeps growing...

mondo84: Tons of releases so far this week. :)
Indeed. To the point I even start to think we might get two older games released this Thursday...

Nice release. Looking forward to trying this.
This is going into my wishlist for two reasons. First, I have no money (with all the great independent releases this week, this has been especially painful.) Also, I want to wait on it because I won't be able to resist temptation to go right into it without finishing Avadon 1 first. The story in the first game is like a fine wine-meant to be sipped slowly and enjoyed, with each little detail of the flavor savored. As someone on the site mentioned, it's like a novel in game form.
I'm literally enjoying every second of the game; every plot twist, every character, everything.

I'm sure the story of the second game is also equally good if not better, but I really don't want to know the ending of 1 until I finish, and I'm sure 2 will tell at least a bit of the ending of the story of part 1.

I admit, during the saturation of cartoony platformer indies, I was also crying out for classic games, but this week's independent releases have been very high quality games that are well worth getting into. I'm not saying cartoony platformers don't have a place, they do. Many people enjoy them, so they do belong here, but these releases this week are classics in all but name.

Straight from Mr. Vogel's mouth apparently. It probably has something to do with GOG not wanting to support it or not believing it's profitable enough. Sigh.

It is certainly possible that the remake won't be released for some time since the first Avernum series appeared here such a short time ago.

I'd honestly just rather everything be on GOG, I'm lazy like that.
I love it. Some clown has already posted a review for this game on the day of its release but at least they are honest in admitting they only played a few hours before "reviewing" it.

Best parts?

"shiny new graphics"

"extremely bad writing"

Yeah, typical Spiderweb game - shiny graphics and lousy writing...

And this is awesome too: 12 of 14 people so far found a review like this helpful.

Wow.

Yeah I saw that. It got a laugh out of me. Especially the "extremely bad writing" part. That doesn't sound like any Spiderweb game I've ever played.

What. Ahahahaha. Oh that's grand. Yes, I play Avernum and Geneforge for the jaw dropping graphics. Absolutely nothing for the writing, no that's bland and vague and forgettable... heheheheh. I can't even say that with a straight face. *snicker*
Yeah but at least Spiderweb games never had ~romantic~ writing before this game. Literally the first NPC you meet in the game is a scout girl who tries flirting with your character. And yes it's awkward and badly written.

Oh, Crosmando. You hate everything.
