3) How do you actually get the image on the pumpkin as a cutting guide? Drawn on, projected or just dead reckoning when consulting the source image?

2) I ALWAYS have too much time on my hands
3) I print out the image, tape it on and trace it using a needle (dot dot dot). There is transfer paper that can be used, but I wouldn't be able to get the detail needed.

That is sheer genius! Especially the zombie, with the different colors. You are incredibly skilled at cutting evenly to specific depths.
[EDIT] I just now looked closer at your avatar. That's cut from a pumpkin too, isn't it? :-D
