My preference would be that all DLC come in the form of preorder bonuses never to be rereleased. Post release DLC should be in Bethesda-style inly.
What pisses me off most about this situation is that BioWare did day 1 DLC for Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 as well, namely "The Stone Prisoner", which included Shale and her questline, which turned out to be some of the best content in the game, and "The Cerberus Network", which had a bunch of extra stuff, including Zaeed and his questline, the Hammerhead hover tank with related missions and the Normandy crash site mission, and it was FREE for anyone who purchased ANY version of the game...

I've been a costumer of them since 1998, when they released Baldur's Gate, and it sucks to see them turn into... this. Dragon Age II was a mess that I still regret spending my money on, and now this? It's unacceptable. I'm not buying the game unless they change this. And I bloody hate that I'll be missing out on the final chapter of the trilogy, but there you go. Goddammit BioWare!

Fred_DM: , pre-order and promotional DLC will not be made available to everyone eventually.
You sound so sure about that but going by previous ME's your wrong sorry all preorder DLC for ME2 was made available 2 months after release sorry to burst your bubble (even the CE rifle is gettable it's part of one of the packs)

no, it's not. here is all the officially released ME2 DLC: http://social.bioware.com/page/me2-dlc so where's the Collectors Rifle, or the Blood Dragon armour?

and both Dragon Age: Origins and DA2 had a bunch of promo, pre-order and CE DLC that you cannot purchase or (legally) download.

Blood dragon buy any DA:O game I got it a few months ago when I picked up DA:O

Collectors rifle you can apparently pick up in the recon pack on the PS3 and it activates the collectors rifle on PC aint that nice of it. (Or you could do things properly and get the Digital deluxe version where it comes from)

I'd also like to point out neither of those is a pre-order DLC. But it's still harder to get the Dr Pepper DLC's than the pre-order and CE stuff.

Pangaea666: DLC is an experiment that needs to die. Overpriced PoS, and the day 1 dlc is just laughing in our faces.

wodmarach: DLC saves jobs, no seriously when a game is closed for features before DLC the content team were generally laid off (expansion packs not being planned until sales figures were known) with DLC they are used to produce said DLC for 3 months before the game goes on sale (this is how we get day 1 DLC)
Game developers and/or publishers wanting to make bigger bucks is why we get day 1 DLC.

I'm not a milking cow, so won't buy them. But then I'm not buying ME3 either, so there is that.

So what they make some money and don't lay people off sounds fair to me. The fact it's released on day 1 is a lucky side effect of the 3 month verification process

Yes, I'm sure BioWare and EA are so close to bankruptcy that if they had put this essential character in the game to start with or offered it as a free DLC on day 1 or later they would have had to fire a lot of their artists.

They are chopping up the game to make more money. Fact. I blame that mostly on EA, but the content of the game itself is BioWare's department so they'll have to take the blame for that one.

How is he ESSENTIAL? it's a damn character and 2 missions THATS IT nothing else
Hell he was probably dropped early and decided upon as an early DLC once the game was complete because he WASN'T important.

To echo this, you can modify a few files in your DA:O install to get the rest of the promo rings and shit, instructions are on the Dragon Age Wiki. I don't know about DA2, but everything digital ever released for DA:O is now available (even the crappy parts).

In Ultimate stuff like Blood Dragon Armor is pretty redundant anyway, Warden Commander's Armor and a bunch of others are superior and have about the same (or exactly the same) Str reqs.

You thought The Stone Prisoner DLC was good? Shale was a good companion (though I think Dog is way better) but her questline is terrible, imo.
