EDIT: We're sorry to inform you, that the release of this title has been postponed beyond the planned release time. Here's a message from the developer:

[i]Hi all,
Unfortunately, due to some last-minute snags, we will NOT be releasing at 1800 CEST today. There are some critical bugs in the latest version (one of which is also in yesterday's early access version) that affect, amongst other things, character voices and save-games.
We definitely do not want to release a potentially broken version to everyone on Steam, GOG and the Humble Store, and so we're working hard to fix these bugs before publishing the game.
Here's what can happen with our current, broken version:
• After loading an auto-save, you get stuck. This can be fixed by reloading the save-game, but that's not a great user experience, obviously.
• After switching the subtitles on or off, you lose the character voices. The voices come back again after a while, but this can ruin the experience of playing the game.
• Mac version crashes on load. This is a new bug, and shouldn't be too hard to fix, but it's obviously quite critical!
There are a couple of smaller bugs in addition to this, but those are the major ones. We're working on fixing them right now, and we don't think it's going to take too long, but we do have to run through the game multiple times on multiple computers before we can publish again. [...]
With any luck, it won't be a late evening at Casa Red Thread, but we will keep y'all updated!

Vainamoinen: A pledge is an act of financial support, a donation, nothing more, nothing less.
not for me. I paid as part of an agreement whereby I would receive a product. You can view the product you are promised in the Kickstarter tiers before you give any money. There may be a spirit of financial backing... but you are absolutely bartering for goods and the devs have a legal obligation to fulfill their end.

You aren't the first person I have seen claim this, so I'm curious where you get the idea that you are simply making a donation and all of the dev promises don't mean anything?

Don't get me wrong, hucklebarry, that legal obligation EXISTS. And it's a central reason why I still participate in crowd funding. This is not Early Access. The developer is obliged to deliver a final product (or, according to Kickstarter, at least a damn good explanation as to why he can not deliver).

The dev promises mean a lot. But if you put the pledges into relation to what is delivered, you will invariably come to the conclusion that the 'worth' of those trinkets doesn't even remotely match the amount of money put into the campaign by the backer.

Pledging is a DONATION because perceived as a purchase, it would always be a reeeeeally shitty bargain.

I wouldn't call it a donation, exactly, but it's probably best to be precise about this. The devs have a legal obligation to try to fulfill their end; if they can't, they have a legal obligation to explain what they did with the money and refund any that they still have lying around. This was made explicit in their recent TOS update. You're not bartering for goods in any traditional sense, because the goods you want don't exist and the devs have no obligation to ever give them to you if they run into problems.
I believe what Vainamoinen means is that (in crowd-funding in general) you give money for *two* reasons, instead of just one reason (to get the product) when making a normal purchase. Those 2 reasons are:
- in order to receive a "tangible" (even if digital) product of X value (the "purchase" part of the deal).
- in order to ensure the existence of something that you think is *worth* existing, but couldn't be made without your help (the "donation" part of the deal).

The existence of the 2nd part is the very reason why the higher Kickstarter tiers even exist. In fact, as you move along from lower to higher pledge tiers the ratio of "donation" to "purchase" grows fast in favor of "donation" (but both still exist even in the "basic"/lowest tier), since there are people in Kickstarters that have paid thousands of dollars for things like having their name in the opening credits, an appearance in the game or spending a few days with the developers (things that are *not* objectively worth that much).

What I think we should take from all the above is that -in my opinion- when you make a Kickstarter pledge you should be *aware* of what exactly you are doing, and that you are *not* just "pre-ordering" something. You *are*, but you're *also* donating at the same time. So, if you're only looking to "get the best bargain" in the game's price or only care to "get the exclusive extras" I would advise you to *not* crowd-fund something. Because if you do you'll definitely end up regretting it (at the first sale when it will be cheaper than your pledge, when it comes out later in other platforms you prefer, when the - unavoidable in game development- changes take place during production, etc.) and you'll sour your soul and that of the other backers and that of the developers.

I didn't read much (as a child) but has someone mentioned that how long is the wait between chapters and how many are those?

Ahhhh that's an easy one.

There are five episodes ("Books") total. The idea is to finish Chapters about September/October next year if everything goes according to plan, so that means a little less than three months between books.

(Oh, and re. pledge controversy: What urzagc said. ;) )

On the Kickstarter updates, they very recently said it would go up one hour before the normal Steam update time:

Our launch is Tuesday at 0900 PDT, 6 PM / 1800 Oslo (and central European) time. The team will be on-site and ready to monitor all of our channels and address any issues that may occur — and hopefully to also celebrate with all of you through that evening. We will be available for questions after people have had a chance to play through Book One, in case you have any. (And we're sure you will!)

Thx for the info. 6pm Oslo time is 3am here. nah. not going to wake up at the time to download the game and play it before work. not that desperate...

although it would have been a fun thing to do. get up 3am. start download, grab one more hour of sleep. play from 4 till 7am then go to work...
The looooooooong wait is almost over :D
