Freddo: I consider Alpha Protocol to be the best game of 2010, wonderful game despite the technical flaws.
it certainly was not the best of 2010 however I do agree that it was pretty underrated and had a lot of very cool/interesting things - I enjoyed the game

The best game of 2010 was ironically Fallout: New Vegas so either way it's still Obsidian.

New vegas was certainly very good, its just a shame that it was brought down by so many bugs and problems

Oh well, I suppose that's why the GOTY edition is coming out this year

The bugs and problems in New Vegas were overblown by the usually hysterical internets. People were complaining it was unplayable before the game was even released. In fact I could say the very same thing about Alpha Protocol. 2010 should have been Obsidian's year but thanks to the internets they infact had to lay off staff, well done the internets. Which is why I said it was Ironic.
I have not read anything but even if this was released it will be released on consoles and that dont feel right, Port or not it wont be as good as the first.

mystral: New Vegas was great, story and all, though. It helps that the story was largely recycled from Van Buren, when they apparently had better writers than they do now.

Delixe: Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone were the lead writers for Van Buren and also Fallout: New Vegas. Download the Fallout Bible extra that comes with any Fallout game on GOG. Yep Josh Sawyer.
Well, if it's the same writers they've gotten worse since then, because imho the writing in their other games (KotOR 2, NWN 2 and Alpha Protocol) is much worse than the one in New Vegas and in their older titles as Troika (Arcanum and Bloodlines).

I agree about the complete overreaction to the bugs in New Vegas and Alpha Protocol, though. Neither were much buggier than most titles, and most of the bugs in NV seemed to come from the old Oblivion engine rather than the game.
However, I'd say that Obsidian brought its reputation for releasing buggy games on itself, since counting their Troika games they released five very buggy games in a row.
Once you have that kind of rep, it's hard to get rid of it.

I'm definitely with the lot of you that consider FO:NV to be the real FO3. It makes me pretty pleased to see just how much of Van Buren that they stuffed into NV, good to see the original ideas not going to waste.

Now as for PST2, Eh... While I'd like it since PST is easily one of the best games I've ever played for story content (and given me one of my favorite characters ever, Ravel Puzzlewell, hence the user title <3), I know WotC wouldn't let it happen and if for some reason they did reintroduce the Planes to 4E, I wouldn't want to touch it. I know I read an article where Chris said he originally had planned for two more PST based games (one involving Dak'kon trying to unify the Githzerai and Githyanki, and other that involved quite a few PST main characters but had no sign of NO) so seeing those come to life could be wonderful but I'll admit I'd want them to still be isometric and lovely and it's safe to say those days are mainly gone.

That being said I'm also very loyal to Obsidian and will defend KotOR2 with everything I have in me. :)

A sequel to Torment? Nah, pass.

Another game set in the Planescape universe? Yes, please!

Edit to clarify: Of course I loved Torment. But a direct sequel has about a snowball's chance in hell of NOT desecrating the corpse of that beloved game. Another game with the same style, setting, etc. would satisfy quite nicely, though.

The game doesn't need a sequel. Leave the original alone.

Delixe: You have to wonder if some of these people read the GOG forums. Link
As long as Obsidian writes it and someone else codes it, then fuck yeah! for a sequel. I'd totally wanna help have a hand in making that one.

mystral: What story would you tell in in an hypothetic PS: T 2 anyway?
The Nameless One is done with his torment and having a new PC would feel wrong.
How about a God of War or Demon Souls-style slashfest in the Blood War?

Well, that could be interesting as a game (I liked God of War's gameplay, though the story was cringeworthy), but it would be Planescape in name only, like the new "X-Com" game.

And so I'd have to curse all the developers to the 100th generation, which would make me sad since I like Obsidian.
Apparently Alpha Protocol being a mess was down to constantly changing specs and Chris Parker's egotism. That's just an anonymous employee's opinion though.
I loved Planescape; Torment,. I really liked KOTOR II (probably because I dislike the Star Wars setting and morality which KOTOR II twisted around for a much darker and philosphical tale). Alpha Protocol was awesome and is one of my favorite games. I'm not joking, the story isn't deep, but the way the story can change is awesome and I actually find the game fun. It is basically the opposite of the Mass Effect games, RPG first and an action game second. (level up right the game is easy, level up the wrong way, the game is hard as hell. Your cover based shooting skills are not nearly as important as how you can figure out how to exploit the abilities and stat system.) Fallout New Vegas was a bit disappointed by, I found the NCR camps to be very dull after a while and just felt that even though it was better than 3 still not as good as the first two. Still one of the best games I played probalby overall but not as good as the first two.

I would enjoy another Planescape game but I think a direct sequal to Torment won't really work and I don't see a game having as much text as that game being released now. I only know of the Planescape setting from the computer game but it seems like there could be a lot more ground to do a lot more interesting stuff.

That being said, I would love for them to make a Jade Empire game. if they are going to make another sequel to an RPG franchise. I'm really curious what Chris Avellone would do with the close fist and open palm philosophies. And if he dislikes kung fu movies and a faux Asian setting then all the better.

I also think Obsidian is over critiziced for the bugs in their games. Yes theri games have bugs but all good WRPGS have bugs. In fact, I would say Bioware is just about as bad bug wise. Dragon Age 2 for instance played worse than its demo for the xbox 360 on a standard TV. All the cutscenes were distorted on a standard TV when they weren't for the demo. Bioware didn't have an option for auto attack on consoles even though I think they said they were going to. Star wars KOTOR had its share of glitches. In Mass Effect games I have sometimes been caught in a polygon surface and had to reload an earlier save.

What great nonlinear or even pseudo none linear WRPG did NOT have bugs when it first came out? Fallout New Vegas was a bit ridiculous bug wise maybe but look at the size of the game and how nonelinear it is. I think if it was PC only there would have been a lot less complaining about it. Just that it is odder for a console game to have so much bugs.
