Space Rangers 2 didn't have a huge worldwide marketing campaign, but became an instant classic in many countries. Read below to find out why and discover this game for yourself.

Like its [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/space_rangers]predecessor, Space Rangers 2 combines multiple gameplay modes - even more than the original, in fact. You've got 2D space flight and combat with an active pause feature. Battles on planets' surfaces are played in 3D, using real-time strategy mechanics, but you can jump into the fight and directly control one of the units in third-person shooter mode. Then you've got adventure elements and RPG-like character progression.

Finally, the game is completely open-ended. The universe seems alive with ships flying about on their errands and a huge war developing somewhere on the fringes. You can even ignore the conflict around which the game's story is centered, but it will catch up to you eventually. Trade prices are determined by supply and demand, and of course random events like diseases. Whether or not you get missions is based on your standing with the different races...

Overall, Space Rangers 2, although not widely known, is an exceptional, complex game that you simply must try out.

eyeball226: But it's been said multiple times in this thread that Reboot is a stand alone expansion. GOG already have several of those.

lowyhong: Sorry for the confusion there. Yea Reboot is a standalone game, but it's basically the same game as RotD, with the addition of more text and RTS quests, and some equipment. GOG more likely to replace (not include as I mentioned in my previous post) Dominators with Reboot than to sell it separately, is what I was saying.
Actually Reboot is normal expanion to SR2, not a standalone game. Confusion comes from the fact that some places sell reboot as standalone game (basically reboot is preinstalled on SR2) AND sell SR2 too (bad because only way to upgrade is to buy the reboot bundle) while other places (at least impulse (their SR2 and rebood bundle is called "SR2 Complete"), probably retail as well in easter europe) sell SR2 and Reboot expansion (requires SR2) separately.

Reboot alone weights 865.01 MB and adds following:

• Five new text quests.
• 27 new planetary battle maps.
• 10 new hyperspace battle maps.
• More than 50 new governmental missions of different types to complete.
• New unique equipment.
• Two new game modes: text-quests and planetary battles.
• Improved galaxy searching system

This is one game that has NEVER left my pc. I can't recommend it enough.
I too highly recommend this game - it's definately one of the best games I've played in the last ten years (no, I'm not exaggerating). It's one of the few games today (well, almost today, since it came out in 2005) that really shows the love of the developers for gaming.

If anyone cares, it received high praise by one of the developers of Sundog: Frozen Legacy, an atari ST space rpg (a masterpiece - probably the first one where you could land on planets and roam free doing whatever you wanted).

Hmm, it would be nice to get that in the future. Because (as far as I know) GOG doesn't do expansions that aren't standalone I think the best thing to do would be to add this to GOG's Space Rangers 2 at some point in the future. That would be really welcome and would make me buy it here (I have Space Rangers 2 vanilla from GamersGate).
^I got Reboot for $4 from Impulse. Truthfully, it felt like I'd stolen the game or something, and I don't think I've even completed half of the available text quests yet!

Prison text quest did get a bit annoying after being arrested for the 3rd time though.

pawelgr5: Seems like this is another game I missed somehow when it was originally released. Will check some gameplay videos and decide.
Youtube videos won't do the game justice. Check out the Codex's LP here, and see if that does not testify to the game's greatness:

All this talk about SR2 makes me want to fire it up again. Maybe I'll do it after I'm finished with Gothic. Good times with the text quests.

That thread is insane. I think the game is too awesome for me. :)

I found it interesting that Impulse has the complete SR2 pack - with both SR2 regular AND Reboot - for $14

Cook: Just like the game title says it's Space Rangers 2: Dominators - that's not a "Reboot" nor "Complete" version of the game.
I already have this at GG, but if you upgrade this to reboot I'll definitely buy it here (hint hint).
got a dvd off ebay (usa) for $7
it was sr1, sr2 plus the expansion.
there is a mod that allows the screen to scale in some parts to >1024x768 but it was last updated for v1.29 and doesn't work with v1.30 which was on the DVD.
not sure what version GOG has.

Damuna: So uh, how about that 1C Publishing sale this weekend, to encourage sales of your new release? Hinthint.

:D
Hell yeah!
I somehow magically love all their games, unknown jewels..
