Before we hit you with our big upcoming release, here's something many of you have asked for: a detour from all those recent RPG releases!

As a cunning mixture of genres, [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/space_rangers]Space Rangers can't be easily summarized. It's part strategy, part RPG, part 2D arcade shooter with a hint of economic sim and more. Usually when you throw so many different genres into the pot, the end result is a jumbled mess. This is definitely not the case with Space Rangers. Every gameplay mode fits the others like a charm and is unlikely to ever feel out of place. The war around which Space Rangers' story is centered, is generated dynamically, the in-game market prices follow supply and demand and the ships you encounter have individual capabilities, goals and relations, so no playthrough will ever feel the same. The race you choose at the beginning will also have a profound effect on the gameplay. Overall, a truly unique game, well worth checking out if you're tired of playing more "generic" games.

Clocknova: I just tried this. I assume that you just dragged the Impulse install into the wrapper, as I've never been able to get Impulse to run in anything but Windows. What engine did you use? I'm going to try one of the other engines now.

EDIT:
No luck so far. Can you walk me through what you did, step by step?
Sure:

1. Install Space Rangers 2 Complete (via Impulse) inside a VMWare Fusion Win XP install.
2. Create a new Wineskin wrapper with the WS4Wine1.2.1 engine.
3. Using Winetricks, install the d3dx9 package.
4. Using the registry editor, add the following keys to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER]\Software\Wine\Direct3d:
a. DirectDrawRenderer -> opengl
b. StrictDrawOrdering -> disabled
c. UseGLSL -> enabled
d. VideoMemorySize -> 512 (this will depend on what graphics card you have)
5. Set the following in 'Set Screen Options' of the Wineskin Settings App:
a. Rootless
b. Res = 1024x768
c. Virtual Desktop
6. Using shared folders, copy the entire Cinemaware directory from the VM and into the Wineskin wrapper's Program Files directory.
7. Choose rangers.exe as the Winekin executable.
8. Start the game.

Note that the first time I started the game it was incredibly slow to get to the title screen, but since then it's been perfect. Apparently you can't attach text files here, so here's the contents of my config file:

Holy crap! You're a frigging genius. I can FINALLY play this fantastic game without booting into Windows. Thank you so much. I really thought that I tried most of those settings. Must be a combination of something. Incidentally, it works just fine in fullscreen mode; rootless isn't necessary.

I'm going to try and figure out exactly what is responsible, then see about uploading a working wrapper to The Porting Team. I'll mention your username.

EDIT:
I also got it working in Crossover Games. Through trial and error, I've managed to eliminate everything you did except setting the resolution to 1024 x 768, and the "DirectDrawRenderer -> opengl" registry entry. Both of those steps are necessary for the game to work. Everything else is not (although in Crossover the virtual desktop setting is necessary). I have, however, noticed that it is necessary to make sure that the screen resolution for the planetary battles be set to a non-widescreen setting as well. 1280 x 960 causes the game to crash, while 1280 x 1024 does not. A small inconvenience.
