I'm not a member of GetGamesGo.com, but they have a game I was interested in gifting to someone. So I shot them an e-mail & asked if there was a way I could do it...

================
I have a friend who wants Beyond Good And Evil, and I'd like to buy it for him. I've never purchased from you before. Is there a way I can purchase the game & send him a redemption code to download it to his account?

Thank you.

...and here was their reply...

Hi there

You're welcome to buy a copy for someone and pass them the keycode but not sure how they would get the files? If you can find a way of downloading them and passing them on - or you want him/her to have access to your account, then that's none of our business.

Kind regds

...just thought it was kinda interesting.
Never heard of the site... sounds like an amateur operation from that email.
That's just hilarious.

And I got to use italic since it's a new function.

That's Eurogamer's DD store.

Ah.

Well Eurogamer is certainly an amateur operation.

Schwing!
That's odd. In my first post, italics wasn't even an option. You guys post, and its obviously there because you're able to use it. In this post of mine, the button is there, but it does nothing. WTF??
hilarious
Why not just gift your friend Beyond Good and Evil from gog.com?

I looked into it because its $9.99 on GOG, but its on sale for an even $4 on GGG. I'm just gonna go with the GOG version anyway...no serial number to enter, no limit on downloads, 100% DRM-free.
They're not advocating piracy. But they do seem to be utterly clueless about the whole concept of gifting.

I'd wait until GOG's Christmas sale. You should hopefully get around 30% off.

Eh, I dunno...

...that sounds alot to me like "If you want multiple people playing from your account, go for it." But yes, the do seem clueless on gifting. I guess we're just SPECIAL here at GOG. ;-)

Its part of the What would I have to do to get game challenge thread. Ash360 wants it, and in return he offered to do a painting of my triplet daughters. So if he finishes before it goes on sale, I'll just pay full price. It'd be more than worth it to me, plus there's no reason for me to make him wait when he finishes the painting.

Stupid email but the service they offer is solid.

When I bought the commandos set, they give me a 2mb downloader file and a keycode. So all you would need to do is send the downloader and keycode to your friend. They could then use the downloader to download the game then enter the keycode when need be. Simple. That rep must be new.

I've only purchased one thing from them, Alpha Protocol. The site is exceptionally basic, as is their service, but they are still fairly new to the whole thing. Perhaps in the future, they'll get their act together.

Oh yeah, fair enough then. That's enough of a bargain as it is.

As for GGG, I see your point. But if the game has online activations then only one person could use the game unmodified anyway. It's a dodgy stance to take though as it effectively condones a compromise in account security and is undoubtedly something that would piss off publishers too.

Hmm. Well, if that's the case, maybe I'll just ask Ash360 his preference when he finishes the painting (assuming the game is still on sale by then, because its regular price is $14.99).
