Hi there fellow GOGers!

I start this thread since I discover something curious, but most curious is that seems forum's elder members didn't know it either! Or at least I didn't see a post explaining it.

What I am talking about is to save those 17 digits keys that have an expiration date!
How? Well, it seems those 17 keys digits aren't the final result key that you get after make any purchase; instead, it seems to be a purchase order key and for that reason it can be redeemed as a gift, eliminating the expiration date and turning it into a 20 digit key.

But which keys I am talking about? This ones:
X14755A3HB64FD184 (Don't worry, is an invalid code)

Which is different from the 20 digits one, that looks like this:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (A 5x4 code, separed with -)

So now I will explain a how to go through the whole process:
- Once located your key, give it to a friend's account that has not the game in his library.
- Now make him go to the redeem link and introduce it.
- Press continue and the site will show you the key content and the expiration date.
- On the next page, instead of redeem it direct to that account, select the gift option and introduce an email adress were the final 20 digit key will be delivered.
- Now you can press continue. (Or redeem, don't remember which one)
- You are done, you will receive a 20 digit key without expiration date!
- Now be kind, and keep that key for future GiveAways, friends or relatives who you convince to get a GOG's account!

At this point I must clarify that I have some doubts before creating this post, since the first member I talk about this didn't take so well, and start talking that i wasn't being honest with my "intentions". However, I will play GOG's same card about their 30 days money back policies on point 14. If GOG makes some promotions, let's think first it was for GOG members before other forums members, as well it is intended to remain free; think first in GOG's forum GA. Don't be a bad guy, no ones like that guy.

Anyway, thanks to some forums member who take nice this initiative, I was able to save from expiring a few keys, so expect a Witcher 2 GA late in 2015, and if you are lazy enough and have one of those expiring key, PM it to me so I can save it for you. I hope GOG forums don't get a W2 shortage soon hahahaha.

Happy new year eve! Cheers to you all!
BUMP!

Only 2 days left!
The point of the expiring key was to make the freebie a limited time offer....

Thought the same, but if so, why GOG does give the users a 20 digit keys? That made me change into that the freebie was to attract more people into GOG services.

Face it you are going around the intended use of the freebie, which will lead to less freebies per chance. Stop trying to justify your actions by saying that if you dig deep enough, you can find a non-expiring key. That is the same mentality that losers use when they take advantage of a drunk girl.

I agree with your overall statement, though I think the analogy is a bit much.

Raping (not a legal expert here, but I believe taking advantage of the fact that a girl is drunk to get intercourse constitutes rape) a drunk girl is several orders of magnitude worst than doing a work-around to prolong a promotion gift code past its intended life expectancy.

very point of using analogies in general is show same principle on case that demonstrates some implications more clearly (in this case moral implications). He is saying that it is same mentality, he is imho using analogy well.

(if someone would say that it is equally bad that would be of course extreme statement, but he is not doing that neither directly nor indirectly)

I think the point of an analogy is to clarify things.

He could have said something like "taken farther...". Instead, he used "the same mentality".

For me, "same mentality" implies a kinship where doing the second thing if you do the first wouldn't be that much of a stretch, yet I think many people who engage in slight fraudulences like this wouldn't engage in rape.

I don't think the thought processes involved are quite the same. On some level, I think he perceives the restriction on promo gift codes as unwarranted, but unless he is a sociopath, I doubt he would view taking advantage of a drunk girl in the same light.

Well, in any case this is just exploitation. Sorry for being blunt, but if the keys had an expiration date it tautologically means that by definition they weren't meant to be used like never-expiring gift codes.
Even if there are workarounds, it is still a break of terms and an abuse of GOG's trust in its customers.

BTW: the "stamp game" was useful to attract new customers; gifting (or trading, as many are already doing) codes does not help anyone but only grants less sales. There is no moral excuse, here.

Hi guys. I have a doubt; have you read my whole post, haven't you guys? Because I think you take a wrong side.

No, Enebias, there's no moral thing here. Thanks for your participation, but if I am being the opposite to a "moral" person, tell me why, please. *hides the corpses*

Thanks Magnitus, for kinda stand against iphgix argument. I know it wasn't for me, but the implication it self which is enough.

iphgix, you do remember me American Pie hahaha, movie that I don't like at all, but I do remember it because is not all clear to me why in the whole world you use that kind of example of something that you found wrong, even when I have explicated it to you. USA citizens tends to link everything with sex. Is strange. And YES, the magnitude is out of context. That is not the way argumentation works.

Now, LET ME EXPLAIN SOMETHING to you and to ALL THE COMMUNITY:
- The 17 digit code is AN ORDER CODE, and it will expire while you no process THAT ORDER.
Once the order is PROCESSED, you get your 20 digit key.

- THAT PROCESS is able in the same TERMS GOG devs have created his website. For god's sake, is in the website! I am not telling you guys to download some script or get into GOG servers to do some kind of weird exploit.

- AND MOST IMPORTANT, I already told this to you guys, but I like to repeat things: The keys aren't being created from air, aren't being multiplied magically, ARE NOT BEING EXPLOITED, the key ARE BEING PROCESSED!

Anyway, I have contacted several GOG (PM) team users about this thread in order to check yours concerns. Let's hope they have a break in his holidays and check it before 12/31. In case they don't, I am not going to be devil's advocate so I am not going to continue this argument; answer are here, just read. People is free to do whatever they found best.

Have a good day guys.
Got Witcher 2, and i got you a code! 343CF-811CB-A9B1E-7A493
Interesting find, thanks for sharing. +1. I wonder if this is working as intended or if it should be considered as an "exploit" the website programers didn't foresee with these freebie keys.
