It makes absolutely no sense to me having this rep system under our nicks (wish i could had an option to disable it all over for my nick), i know the more you would advertise your name the more rep you would get..it's no problem for me asking my 100+ online dudes from msn to register into gog and rate my topics(it'd not worth it)..i could reach to enourmous rep numbers in a short time...those dudes with stars and hundreds of reps did not do anything spectular or exceptional to the GOG..they just put their noses into every topic and spam bulky wall of random infos that can be found on net...there's absoluetly no difference between a 200 rep person and 0 rep person in reality..i don't care if GOG would give a prize or not to the highest rep person i never need random prizes the only thing i need is those good old games.
Actually, quite a number of us in the top 5 or 10 have spent quite a bit of time helping others out with various issues. I'm not saying others have not mind you! We just started early :)
Not much is gained from positive votes, though admittedly, the 1 point per day skews the results a little.
If you getting your 100+ fiends to game the system, and votes itself is not worth it, why bother with it at all??
The prizes are likely for Weclock, seeing how much time he spends helping and posting here.

Google and the GOG staff are there to help those :P i rarely ask questions about my problems into boards because all of the those questions are asked and answered for hundred of times in the google or so...from those high rep people most of the time i see noting but the feeling of urge to post more to get more rep..this turns into a never ending cycle i'm sure if there were no rep system and a prize at the end of it those high rep people would post less..no offence to anyone
Don't forget, people are lazy, and sometimes don't know 'how to search' for an answer. GOG staff, while contactable on support, are not here to do so on the forum.
Forum Posting: It's quick, it's easy, and it's likely someone else has had a similar issue and can get back to you in an hour or dozen. Community love is what it is.
It takes a lot of random "plussing" of individual posts just to get 1 rep point, so asking your friends to sign up and vote all your posts up probably won't do much for your rep. People like Weclock got their high rep from actually answering support questions on the forums, which currently gives you 5 rep for each correct answer. Therefore there is a difference between those high rep people and those with low rep; the ones with high rep have been around for a while and shown themselves to be very helpful to the community. That doesn't make them better or more important than anyone else on the forums, its just a way to show who has been a positive contributor to the GOG forums.
Why on earth would you even bother getting 100 of your online friends to fake vote for you? It seems like a pain in the ass. You'd really just have to be an unhealthily dedicated asshole to do something like that.
i'm showing the easy way to get reps i don't say that i gonna do it i don't believe in reps
yes i agree with people being more lazy and high rep people helped a lot but they don't need to be marked with stars and numbers, this sounds childish it's like saying ''look at me i helped the most'' we are not support team or anything just customers.
and about your saying cogadh ''you get 5 reps for each correct solution'' then why did dude's rep is still at zero although he gave a solution to the problem?

edit: there is a rep "History" on posts. Check his later posting and he should be +3/5 depending on when it was solved.
Also, there is a bit of a delay where rep gets updated! You can expect a *possible* jump of a couple of points, and a refresh of the 'highest rep users' section once per week.

It makes no real difference to me but the idea of some kind of prize (which is probably just something simple and not worth the effort like a new icon other than a star next to your name) will keep me competing with weclock.
The main problem for me is that OFP was the game I'm most experienced at troublshooting and if that's not coming back for a while then I'll get less action...

The link is bad, so I can't really see what you are talking about, but chances are he got the 5 rep, but then his other posts got negative ratings which can decrease your rep. Before the rep system was updated earlier this month, it was actually possible to get your rep down into negative numbers. Additionally, if the person asking the question never bothered to mark an answer as the solution, then no one gets any rep from answering the question.

yeah it is this just copy paste the entire link and delete the space after ''no_'' of the no_mouse_ingame :P here a capture of it
probably he got negatives then to make him zero

corrected freespace link
We need Sailmaker to post here, he would of received it, but again, it will not show on that thread. (This may be changed since Update1 though).
Ah, didn't notice the space when I copied/pasted it.
It looks like it is just as I said, the guy must have some negatively rated posts somewhere that brought his rep down. Additionally, he must not be logging on and posting all that often, since doing that gets you 1 point each day you do it. That's the problem I have with the rep system, since you don't actually have to do anything worthwhile to earn that rep, you can get it by logging in and spamming the forum once a day.

That has changed since Update 1, the rep indicator, just like avatars, are now dynamically updated.

Yeah but still there are too many classifications among members :) it's like we're in a military base with those people having badges and stars..helpful or not we're all potential customers of the GOG...purchasing a game is the best way to support GOG...then they should give you reps for purchasing a game? i don't really care about it
all the games i purchased from GOG just worked with click..you must be really unlucky to get a game that doesn't work for you if you are not having a uber old system from ages ago.
probably the reason he hasn't received rep is because he hasn't posted since then, or a gog staff member is the one who marked his as the solution.

not true, some games (like second sight) require T&L hardware support, which isn't built into newer laptop video cards even.
