jumbalia: I would say the first one is good anyways. I haven't played the others. Max's "doing a poo" facial expression is a bit weird though.
that was part of the max "pain" joke.

and yes all 3 are tottaly worth playing

RaggieRags: Never played them, but my husband who is really nitpicky with games played the first two through and liked them a lot.
There is a really tasteless joke in that post somewhere but out of respect for the poster I'm going to leave it alone. :P

My god this changes everything. So much more depth, complexity and nuance added to the character. It all makes sense now! :D
max payne 1 is good mac but can you really handle the shooting in it ? also the later levels are insanely difficult even with quick saves , if you can handle switching to bullet time for most of the times in the game , go for it the story is good

max payne 2 was really the end for the series , i played a bit of max payne 3 and it sucked hard i cant imagine how they can screw it over so bad

unless you are a good shooter this is the screen you will mostly see in max payne 3 , story was a snooze fest

Short answer: yes.

Slightly longer answer:
Max Payne 1 - really cool and fun game.
Max Payne 2 - even better. Awesome Film-Noir feel and very gripping from the beginning to the end. Definitely the best part of the series and my favourite action game.
Max Payne 3 - a stylistic break, but still a good game. Just not as good as the other two from what I have played. Don't own it since it isn't available DRM free. Just played it on a console at a friends place.

I found the original a bit too repetitive for my tastes. Of course, the combat was all about bullet time, which went a long way towards alleviating eventual boredom but has now become such a ubiquitous feature that I'm not sure it still successfully masks the fact that the game has you mowing down hordes of very similar, dumb enemies in levels that I remember mostly as bland corridors and warehouses.

Edit: Never played the sequels, so now idea how they compare.

I am big fan of Max Payne games.

1 is more hardcore than the sequels and that can make it more fun or less depending on the type of gamer you are. It has aged graphically, but that shouldn't be a concern to a goger.

2 is one of the most underappreciated games ever, my favorite - it's a true masterpiece. I love how it self parodies itself, the TV shows are genius. It is quite short (not by today's standards tho) but makes up for it with super tight content and gameplay. It will never age graphically and has lots of eyecandy.

3 was surprisingly good and the more I played it the more I liked it. I disagree with those who say that it's 'GTA Guns' and this is coming from a gamer who dislikes/doesn't care about GTA games.

I would rate all three games with 9-10-8.
Max Payne 1 & 2 are both great games. I haven't played the third.
