Double the fun, quarter the price!

The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles, an inevitable sequel to the comedic fantasy point-and-click blockbuster, is available 75% off today for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com! That's only $4.99 for the next 24 hours!

If there's one rule that universally applies to all fantasy world, it must be the rule of sagaism. Every successful fantasy story inevitably sprouts into a full-fledged saga, continued over the course of thousands and thousands of pages, game expansion after a game expansion, and movie after movie. And that's a good thing, too! This way we get to revisit our favorite places, check up on our beloved characters, and re-live the amazement over and over again. [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/the_book_of_unwritten_tales]The Book of Unwritten Tales made fun of everything that we know about fantasy. The sequel just had to happen, if only to make fun of sagaism as well. The creators claim that it's actually a prequel and a stand-alone expansion, but we all know what it's going on here. Sagaism!

The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles could do just fine by only copying its predecessor. After all--that's what many successful sequels do. The creators, however, made damn sure to give you a plethora of fresh and funny ideas, a cast of new crazy characters, and plenty of previously unseen, beautiful and detailed locations. Point-and-click adventure fans, rejoice! The game as well as the original Book of Unwritten Tales are available in both English and German versions![/i]

Adventurers! Fantasy fans! Troll rights activists! Grab The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles now, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Thursday, May 30, at 9:59AM GMT.

Crosmando: Now that is the strangest gem promo post I've ever seen GOG do.
Maybe TheEnigmaticT is just tired ;)
Surprised no one made a...

too hard to resist :)

I don't play adventure games much but I've played the original Book and I simply need to have the seprequel...
Fantastic game from KING Art. I hope you'll handle theirs upcoming Battle Worlds: Kronos.
I have to say I actually enjoy point-and-click aventures more for their story, exploration and humor aspects than the puzzles. It's cool when the game challenges you to think a little bit, but I don't really need them to be "difficult" in a "I'd never have guessed this odd solution" way. And if I ever think an adventure is over too quickly, it's mostly due to lacking content and not because I miss the times when I would spend hours on trying to figure out a single puzzle.

That being said, a lot of it also depends on how it's done. I think the difficulty of "Time Gentlemen, Please!" for example isn't that low, but it's awesome, because you always have several puzzles to work on at the same time and, like JMich said, each weird combination is rewarded with a funny comment. Not to mention that the difficulty doesn't result from bad game design. Adventures where you get stuck because of a single illogical puzzle and the only response you get is "That doesn't work" are just no fun and I'd take any "glue cards together with duct tape"-type adventure for it (if it manages to deliver in all other aspects).

Oh, GOG, why must you tempt me so? Thinking of picking this up along with Night of the Rabbit.
I'm just now halfway through the first one in the series. I decided not to buy the 2nd until I played this one to see if it was any good. Based on what I've seen, this is a MUST buy even at 19.99. The quality is superb.

I had to disable SLI to get the first one to work properly and there was a quest that had errant directions in it. Other than that, its also a very stable game.
75% off nice but game is not for me.
Requesting more 75% and higher discounts in the future
Thank you! I've been waiting for this :)
Yeah. 75% off is really nice. But the game is not my type. Well, I guess that's it. I am taking vacation from buying game and just wait until end of year sale :D
I really enjoyed the original game.
I was waiting for a better price for the prequel and 75% off is a great discount!
Thanks GOG!

Funny you mention that game. I'd bought it from Steam years ago, and barely touched it. But reading your comment makes me feel like giving it another try, so thanks!

Oh, and in topic: the Book of Unwritten Tales is a great game. The puzzles are rather easy but clever, the music is really nice, and the writing is solid, it's not just reference after reference. That's for the 1st game, I haven't played Critter Chronicles but I'm looking forward to it.
Bought it. I was waiting for this and it happened. Thank you GOG! Now I have to find the time to play through it.

P1na: I was just playing this game, it's nice but there doesn't seem to be much thinking involved. Are new point & click adventures easier or am I just getting older?
I haven’t played the prequel, but the first game is a bit on the easy side (okay, I played with highlights, but I played both Deponias with highlights, too). I was able to guess solutions for most puzzles, occasionally before the puzzle in question was presented. It has to be said that puzzles are generally based on original jokes, so it's not the game's fault. But it did at times feel like clapping along to Dora the Explorer.
