The funniest fantasy book never written!

The Book of Unwritten Tales, a beautifully rendered comedic point-and-click adventure that spoofs all the popular fantasy worlds with their recycled tropes, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 24 hours!

Aventásia is a fantasy realm like no other. No, wait. Just the opposite. It's a fantasy realm just like any other fantasy realm. Because, you know, all of them follow pretty much the same basic design. Sure, people coming up with all those world descriptions throw in an occasional gimmick and get creative when it comes to naming stuff, but that doesn't really fool anyone. An orc by any other name would smell just as bad. Strangely enough, we're OK with that world recycling most of the time and the cliches don't bother us all that much, it seems. But we know they're there. Oh, yes! That we do. We see them in movies, games, and books--so often that we don't even notice any more. Then someone comes and points them out to us, and this new perspective makes them hilarious. This is exactly what The Book of Unwritten Tales is all about.

The Book of Unwritten Tales uses the time-tested point-and-click adventure mechanics to present us with an unending series of gags and puns hitting the bullseye on the fantasy cliche targets. The story, the characters, the settings, and the dialogs--everything in this game is a twisted image of the fantasy meta-realm present in our popular culture. But it does not stop at that! While constantly making fun of other fantasy games, it's very successful in being a good and enjoyable fantasy game on its own. There's an intriguing story to follow, lots of creative puzzles to solve, and plenty of gorgeous locations to explore. Whether you're looking for some lighthearted laughs or pensive puzzles, this game has you covered!

In the library of over 500 games The Book of Unwritten Tales is one of the funniest, and you can get your copy for only $4.99 today! The offer lasts until Thursday, April 18, at 9:59AM GMT.
Absolutely awesome game if you are at all fond of point-and-click adventures. Well worth it at full price, so this is a steal. Though I wish it was the sequel (well, prequel, technically) as I've already played this and not that.

Greetings to the GOG.com community

Thank you so much for continuing to supply us adventure gamers with new quality games. And even more so, thank you for supplying us Linux gamers with new quality games :D
I know I ask this all the time but how is this little gem on the hardware? I don't normally play point and click adventure but this one looks so colorful and tasty which also means I may need something off the Enterprise to get it to run. :P

Those characters are in 3d so it takes something.. But if you have even a decent machine I would think that you wouldn't need a lot. Also there isn't quick time events.. Well there are some things which you really can't do if it stutters, i mean you had to make some soup by stirring with a mouse so if that isn't smooth you can fail.

Edit: but if you got that far you will be fine. =)

I could tell you that it is running on my working laptop which is not the best one, so there are no high requirements ;) but to make it much easier for you and to test it for yourself on your system, just download the demo version of The Book of Unwritten Tales (here are some mirror links: http://bout.kingart-games.com/demo_download.html)

It was a bit cliche and all the "funny stuff" wasn't really that funny but as a new adventure game it was better than the most.

Edit: and all I mean some.. not really ALL.

What are you specs? The German version of the game was oiginally released in 2009 and it ran perfectly on below-average hardware at the time.

EDIT:
There's also a demo, as ThomNG pointed out. Give it a try!

Thanks Thom, and I found a demo link earlier unfortunately where I live by the time I was able to download the demo the sale would be over. I appreciate the effort though and I'll think about it. Like I said I'm not crazy about P&C games but this one seems so visually stunning.

Post Edit:
Think I'll pass for now. I'm on a gore binge right now and may never get to to. Still, gorgeous looking game and my hat goes off to the developers. :D

God.It had to be the one demo on steam which doesnt exist anymore. Argh...
Very enjoyable game, but its already in my library.
I had this game on my wishlist for some time now and almost lost hope it would be featured in some promo. Yesterday I was hoping that some good promotion would come up so I can get my Good (Old) Games fix and presto: The Book of Unwritten Tales! :]

Thanks GOG!

Antimateria: Did you know that elf girl was voice acted by same person than risen 2's Patty.. If I recall right.
No I didn't, interesting. Haven't played Risen 2 yet, but played Risen 1. I presume that her voice-actress is the same in R2?
Already played it but decided to buy it now with this excellent promo.

Thank you GOG.

You know how vocal I was with my support for one of goriest games on GOG? :)
Well, I bought this one on the first sight of the promo.
C'mon, it costs less than two packs of cigs (and I guess cigs are cheaper in Poland).
