Hey,
New to Good Old Games so forgive me. I just bought Unreal Tournament 2004 and I used the GoG Downloader to get the 2GB bin file. Except I don't know how to open this file type. I've tried Daemon Tools and a variety of internet solutions, none of which worked.

GoG Forums and Help neglect to say how you open such files after download.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kain
There's also supposed to be a setup.exe.
To be precise I think you're supposed to have 2 .bin files and 1 .exe file.
Make sure you download all the installer files. If there is a .bin, there is also a .exe. The .exe uses the .bin files.
I cant really help but Welcome to GOG

Smannesman is correct - for future reference, most information is available :

Q 5. Do I need some launcher application to play my GOG.com games?

A 5 : No. You don't need any additional, stinky apps or launchers. We wanted to keep things as simple as possible. All games downloaded from GOG.com are wrapped in a nice self-executable (.exe) setup files, some of the larger ones are accompanied by a .bin file or two.

So after you've completed the download, just double-click on the .exe file to install the game on your hard drive. After the installation is complete, shortcuts will be added to your Start Menu, desktop and Games Explorer, so you can launch your good old game just like any other!

Thanks, I got it to finally run. I appreciate the help. Forgive the ignorance.

The bin files are just containers like .cab, .rar, .zip, and similar files. You need something else to extract the contents, therefor the exe file is used... Its a way to make an installer seem smaller.

Long story short, I can't see the reason for splitting the installer, but they are a mess anyway.

Just put everything in the same folder and run the exe. Problem fixed.

There used to be an absolute file size limit of 2gb via the internet - presumably GOG and other sites maintain this for compatibility.

IMHO it's probably to have the files being compatible with FAT32 which has a 2GB limit.

^^This. The internet has no size limits, but file systems do. A lot of people still use FAT32 (why, I don't know), so GOG has to maintain that limit in their downloads.

They use it for their Windows 95 GOG machines of course.

LOL
The 2GB file limit probably has a lot to do with a majority of portable flash media utilizing the FAT32 file system.
I really think GOG should put a little blurb or rollover pop-up about downloading all files for those new to site. Better yet have a quick site tutorial on their youtube channel or have a introductory mode to their page that has spoon-fed instructions on everything. For aesthetics, this tutorial mode of the site could be toggled on or off in profile.
