Older browsers had download size limits of 2gb as well.

cogadh: The internet has no size limits
i wish there was an x-files ep that included that line of dialogue or something
"No, those aliens cant steal all the data, its impossible!"
"Impossible, why?"
"Too much data to steal, you know - things have size limits."
"The internet has no size limits."
"So you are saying they put all the data they want online and then they want to steal the internet?"
I thought the FAT32 file size limit was 4GB, not 2GB.

well 32 bit is 2^32 = 4GB so yes you thought correctly.

You are right, guess it means I should go sleeping...
Some media (usb memory sticks/SD cards etc) are actually formatted in FAT16 which has a 2GB filesize limit.

Also 2GB is the size limit to burn it in standard ISO 9660 on DVD. You need to change to UDF format to burn bigger files. Also, I think there is still 2GB size limit for some FTP clients. Recent backups programs (like Nero's one) are still splitting data during backup to 2GB parts to make it easier to use on FTPs.

So there are still some reasons to use 2GB size files.

It's actually 4GB minus 1 byte (2^32−1=4,294,967,295 bytes).
there should be an option to have single file d/l or d/l in parts and combine the parts into single file, rather than having setup_game.exe file and extra .bin files.
Inno Setup, the install system GOG uses, automatically splits larger installations to 2GB parts (though I don't remember if it's possible to tell it not to split them).

I guess I don't get this complaint... if it bothers you zip em up and only expand when you need to install? Do you dump everything into one, giant directory or something? It's not like installing a game with a .bin file is any harder, you still double click once and away you go.

Yeah, I have all my games in ISO format and load the image to install. If I zip it it's just hassel to unzip then to install and delete installation files. Making ISO means that I have to mount first. It'll be nice to have it in one exe file. But for now think I'll make ISO instead of zip.
