Well, provided you can deal with the super-bumpy terrain and plenty of mud! Get down and dirty with your 4-wheel-drive monster of a truck and grind it out to the finish line in the harshest racing conditions possible. ShadowOwl: Yes, I agree. Even though it might be the intro of the game, GOG shouldn't be featuring it to promote the game.

ChrisSD: Oh come on, be serious. I bet you can't tell which of these two images comes from the video and which comes from the game. They're practically identical.
XD The one on the right looks like real life.... Maybe I don't get out enough?
My wallet will never be safe on GOG.com.
This game can be very tough, but unfortunately it doesn't have any other AI cars to race against. It's basically the player versus the environment. I hope GOG can get Screamer Rally someday!

tinyE: How is the SP on this bad boy? To be honest I'm not really huge on the other Screamer games. While I do own them and play them I don't rank them with FlatOut or NFS.
Screamer 4x4 is all about the SP, and it's nothing like the other Screamer games. (Seriously; NOTHING like them... it was an incredibly weird usage of the Screamer brand name).

This is a great price for a superb game; so if you're tempted, you should pick it up.

How's it compare to, say, 1insane? Is it worth owning if I already have that? Screamer looks a little bit behind, in contrast to it

I don't know if I can give a very useful answer to that, sorry. I only ever played the demo of 1nsane, and to be honest it didn't really do it for me. Everyone else seemed to love the game, so I've always felt like maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance; but my recollection is that it seemed too much like tearing around these barren and overly-smooth landscapes at absurd speeds.

Screamer 4x4 felt far more like a simulation, and a big part of that was the varied and detailed landscapes with ridges and gullies and lots of foliage and very uneven contours; rather than big smooth expanses. This game isn't designed for high-speed driving (although doing so can be pretty entertaining). The landscapes feel like real places, and the driving feels pretty believable (very very good for the time, at minimum).

I absolutely love the driver view in Screamer 4x4, too -- it's slightly scary how much you get bounced around :)

My experience of 1nsane is very slight, but my initial impression is that I wouldn't put the two games in the same category. I guess there aren't enough offroad driving games to avoid lumping them together, though.

Thank you very much for your well thought-out response :D I think I'll go ahead and pick this one up then, been staring at it for awhile now...

This went on my wishlist at release and I hadn't yet gotten around to buying it at full price. I'm in.

To tell the truth, I get plenty of this action driving to obscure and isolated trailheads on the weekends. Let's see how these cars do versus a 21 year old Ford Ranger with 350,000 miles on it! :)
