If GoG is using foreign banks for financial stuff, I'll need to stop ording games from them. My bank charged me a foreign transaction fee, and when I investigated it is because the charge came from NICOSIA CY (Cyprus)??? Seriously?? What does GoG have to say about that? Can I charge that back to you? Sheesh, a little transparency up front would have been the customer-oriented thing to do..

:(
It's your banks fault on this - GOG does not charge a fee.
Also, I believe all of GOGs transactions from the US are handled through the UK (may be wrong).

Not sure why a "foreign bank" would affect your descision when its a "foreign" company though.

Actually, I do too, just didn't want to muddy up the waters since "bank" has a rather universal meaning. So, yes, my credit union charged me a foreign transaction fee.

They often do. I personally buy my games here with a Capital One card because there's no foreign transaction fees.

I remember being somewhat surprised by that when I made my first purchase as well.
Here is a list of credit cards without foreign transaction fees:

GOG doesn't accept Discover, though.

Since GOG isn't an american company, it's pretty obvious they'll be using "foreign" banks from an american point of view...
I use Paypal and have never had a problem with this (to my knowledge).
None of the people who's cards I've stolen have ever complained about a transaction fee.
Noticed if I use a debit card there is a transaction fee, but not with a credit card. Don't know if this helps.
Charging such fees is a short-sighted and greedy plicy, and nowadays most banks have stopped doing so. In the long-term, it's more beneficial to promote people to make low-risk online transactions, than to have less such transactions, but yank out a fee here and there. Unfortunately, some banks have yet to catch up and adopt this policy.

We do note that we're based in Europe in the "Website Help" FAQ, and our address is listed in the Terms of Service. While this kind of information would definitely be more out-in-the-open if it were posted on the Checkout page, please note that the vast majority of people are not affected by such charges, and we're unable to predict if a given bank will charge any additional fees or not. Slapping a warning on each Checkout page might end up scaring a lot of users who would never have encountered such fees, anyway.

If you wish to make future purchases, I would strongly suggest using PayPal to avoid any foreign transaction fees. I can't be sure, though, if you would be charge extra after using your credit card as a payment source in PayPal - you would have to contact your bank's customer service to make sure of that.

I'm sorry that you were charged with such a fee, and unfortunately we've got no influence over such charges. You may be able to dispute this charge with your bank's customer service, though.

Are they though? In the US nearly all credit cards and debit cards carry those transaction fees. Is this really something that's that unique to the US? And do you really do insufficient business with Americans to justify the 3 minutes worth of work? Of the 4 or 5 credit cards I've had over the years, only 1 of them hasn't had a foreign transaction fee applied when buying things outside the US.

Having a heads up on the checkout page is really the only responsible thing to do, seeing as it's not realistic to set up an account in every country you accept orders from.

Probably not, debit cards are going to be more likely to carry the charge as they don't make money on interest the way that credit cards do.

Debit card charges were previously discussed here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/does_anyone_else_get_charged_extra_from_their_bank_to_buy_from_gog
If I may be serious for a second, and I don't know what this matters, but I've never had a transaction fee of any kind. That goes for GOG or anything else I've ever bought from across the sea. I actually had to go look at my statement and then read up on it because when I first saw this thread I figured it was an extremely remote occurrence at best. Guess I'm just lucky.
Lol, people like you are still out there.

You should be pissed on your bank, because it's your bank that slaps a fee on abroad transactions.
Let me guess, you have an account in Bank of America and you have a problem with everybody else except yourself, am I right?

If even Polish banks don't do this, I'd say yes - American banks are the worst. Not a big surprise, judging how your administration just loves your banks.
