just thought you all should know, gotta run to class, I won't be trying it out after the 360 version stank coupled with having to install that shitty client in order to try it out.

... suddenly I'm really worried that Dues-Ex will be a Steamworks dependent game.
Tried it on steam and then sent an email to them asking to cancel my pre order. Sadly this game is nothing like the original 2. Gfx are good so is the music but rest i was so disapointed.

Compared to original 2 where you could customise your character how you saw fiit you are reduced to specific classes 4 i think although could only try 2 in demo.

Combat i found lacking and camera control was poor with zoom next to useless.

I am tempted to buy Fable 3 instead although heard mixed views on this so apart from Witcher 2 that is fantastic there is not much good rpg worth getting (Got all rpg from here )

That was confirmed months ago.

I was hoping that it wasn't true .... well, scratch that game off my list.

Is Steam really that bad? Impulse I could see, but Steam :/ never found it that bad.
Of course, I do agree that games shouldn't be tied to a client.
I thought the 360 demo was enjoyable enough. Not exciting, but fun enough. And as an Obsidian fanboy, I just about have to get it.

My only concern is what platform to get it for. I hear it plays best with a gamepad, but that doesn't automatically mean I should get it for the 360. I might do PC with a gamepad like I did for Overlord.

So still need to try this PC demo tonight and see how it looks.

It's fitting that Steam is hot air, really. With Steam, you never ever ever own anything. You're completely putting your faith in Valve and unlike any other digital service where you own a license (Gamersgate, Impulse, GOG, D2D, etc. etc.) which entitles you to a copy of the game, Steam only sells subscriptions which are completely and utterly worthless.

They dodge consumer rights which basically means Valve/Steam can screw you over as hard as they want and they already have screwed over plenty of people. It gives them power to ban your account and take away all your games.

Subscriptions are basically "give us your money, and after that you're at our mercy". You don't have the right for a refund, you can't have a back up copy of your game since that requires a license (which you don't own, you own squat - with a license you can legally pirate the game even if the original no longer works because of copy protection), you're not protected by basic consumer laws, etc.

There's thousands of examples of people who lost their account because Paypal was acting up. Instead of just freezing the game bought with Paypal, they lock the account. Some had to wait weeks for it to get fixed, some never got their account back. A friend of mine had this happening where Steam closed his account because Paypal screwed up, so after a week of Steam support being useless, he did a credit card return of charge, causing the bank to take back the funds from Paypal because their support had been useless as well. This in turn led to his account on Paypal to get locked and flagged which gave Steam the excuse to freeze his account indefinitely.

In short: Steam can really screw you over big time. There's thousands of examples already and it's the only service where you have zero rights, never own anything, and pay through your nose for it. So THAT is why many people dislike Steam. I use it for dirt cheap games which I wouldn't mind losing, but if you're going to be take the risk and pay full retail price for these games, then accept the consequences.

Your loss.

On topic: play this game with a controller or don't play it.

They can try. They can't really do it though, as the PC is an open platform. The idea of Valve taking away your ability to play your games is actually so silly it's amusing.

If Square Enix wants to be a bunch of jack asses and platform lock the game to two physical consoles and one virtual console, so be it but they won't be getting my money.

I'll still get it eventually (like 3 months after it comes out), but on the 360 ... and used. Same game, same platform restriction, 1/3 the price.

and yes, I do not count a steam exclusive release as a PC release.

THIS

While I found it enjoyable it has very much been designed to be played with a controller, camera control on KB+M is very poor. TBH though it's really not that different from previous DS games.
Oh yay, more anti-Steam wanking.
It sure is cute to see the anti-Steam Luddites huddling together in a single thread.

And I have news for you: If you don't consider a Steam-exclusive a PC game, you're about to scratch even more off your list*. EA's Origin will be the only way to play Battlefield 3 on PC and it's just the beginning.

*unless you just have an issue with Valve. In which case, LOL.

Fine with me. At least it won't crash, freeze, get stuck in a "connecting" loop, and similar crap. :p

This is in the running for the dumbest thing ever said on the internet. TF2, Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Garry's Mod and Left 4 Dead are not PC games? Really?
Nope, Virtual Video game console, fundamentally no different than playing a SNES game on an emulator.

as you said:
the PC is an open platform
and steam isn't open, thus "not Personal Computer gaming"

additionally neither is GFWL, but I can live with that one because it encapsulates itself into it's games instead of lurking in the task bar as a parasitic 3rd party program.

*edit* much in the same way that most of these games on GOG aren't windows games, they are DOS games being played in an emulator.
