I happen to have a frech copy of windows 8 x64 Pro without the downloader installed and here was my proccess:

I used this link: http://static.gog.com/download/d3/stable/Setup_Downloader_3.3.5_stable.exe

From there i right clicked the installer and choose to install as ADMIN, then accepted all warnings...

Next it launched and asked for all my info and went in great. changed default save folder.

from there i went to my cat, clicked a game and it auto qued up and downloaded fine.

thanks for the log location

after viewing it, it seems that is is asking for a high level windows registry key

so, i run as administrator the aplication, and now the app works.

hope this helps someone

Well, this thread is from 2012.

There is a new thread about the downloader.
Notice however that GOG hasannounced a new client, Galaxy, and the regular downloader will be obsolete.
Only old config files prevented me launching newest downloader. I deleted that folder, cleaned registry and voila!
Downloader works again =)
