First closed beta access keys distributed today!

We're excited to announce the launch of the closed Windows and Mac OS X multiplayer beta of CD Projekt RED's board game tie-in to the universe of Geralt of Rivia - The Witcher Adventure Game. Participants of the closed beta program will be among the first to help test and refine some of the multiplayer components of our upcoming GOG Galaxy service. The number of beta access codes we'll send out today will be limited, and the recepients will be picked among the users who have pre-ordered [url=http://www.gog.com/thewitcher3/en]The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on GOG.com (each selected participant will be getting a set of two keys: one for them and one to give away to a friend). With the distribution of next batches of invitations planned as the event advances, players interested in joining the tests can still navigate to GOG.com/Galaxy and sign up for a chance to participate.

The Witcher Adventure Game takes players on a journey across the world of the Witcher as they assume the roles of four distinct characters known from the books and video games: Geralt of Rivia, monster slayer; Triss Merigold, cunning sorceress; Yarpen Zigrin, dwarven warrior; and Dandelion, roguish bard. Each character has unique skills and multiple ways of overcoming obstacles - the choice is yours: do you fight your way to victory, call on your charm or try your hand at diplomacy? It's the true spirit of board gaming brought straight to your computer screen. Set in the mature and brutal world of The Witcher the game features 4 unique heroes with different skills and approaches to problem solving. With clear, simple rules and intuitive mechanics, tons of quest cards allow players to tell a new tale every time they play. Look adventure in the eye in a world you'll fall in love with!

The purpose of the beta is to test both The Witcher Adventure Game as well as some parts of the GOG Galaxy online infrastructure powering the multiplayer portion of the digitized board game. Over the course of the beta, new cards, mechanics and improvements will be added to polish the game further and deliver you the best possible experience - if you find yourself among the number of beta testers, please stay with us and check for updates regularly. We really do count on your feedback!

Finally, a short but important notice: while the beta is limited to the online portion of the game only, rest assured that the full game will also feature single-player modes such as “hot seat” and “human vs AI”. In other words yes, the game won't be exclusively multiplayer, and you will be able to play it offline, outside our optional GOG Galaxy client.

figgymanna: I thought Witcher 3 pre-order guaranteed you two beta keys.
Yes, this is correct - every user who pre-ordered TW3 on GOG will receive two keys: one for them and one for their friend. We're only just started sending the keys out, so they will be delivered in batches, to scale everything properly and offer best possible game stability and experience :). Nevertheless every person will receive their two keys and it's not going to be a very long wait - don't worry!

Phil84: I don't want to be that guy but @ 0:07 where it says "Triss's Turn", it should spell out "Triss' Turn"

3 S:es just looks weird imo

pawan1993: That is actually correct. For proper nouns it is correct to put 's if the name ends in s. It is only for nouns like say the word horses. It would be "the horses' manes were black".
The convention I'm familiar with is described like this in Ashgate's house style guide: 'Possessive 's -- Should be used as follows: Keynes’s, Jones’s, except in classical and biblical names, thus: Theophilus’, Moses’, Jesus’.'

I rather liked a remark I saw in an old style guide which went something like this: a man who referred to 'the Smiths's dance' might be blackballed at a club, whereas 'St James' Street' would scarcely cause the elevation of a single critical eyebrow. (The street is called St James's Street, presumably on the basis that James is now a common English name even though it is also biblical. I've seen a guideline similar to Ashgate's which explicitly says that 's should be avoided only for Moses, Jesus, and longer classical names like Aristophanes.)
Pretty fun once you get the hang of it, though tough. Just finished my first game as Triss, which happily ended in victory (though it was my opponent's first game as well, and they played pretty smartly). I definitely think this is a good for a pick-up game, at least on the shortest time setting. Would be interesting against multiple opponents, though possibly the waiting for your turn could be excessive then.
As a hearing-impaired gogger, I would appreciate English subtitles on videos like this. You've gone to the trouble of having foreign-language ones.
So are we supposed to get the keys automatically if we preordered the witcher 3? because I ordered it but didn't get any keys........
If some one is interested in giving away a key ;) I'm free!
Would be THIS glad!
Till then, have fun alone :( ;)
The fact that you would take the time to specifically mention that the game supports single player with AI is the reason why I love you.

No DRM, no always on, single player as important.... You get me. You really really get me.

I'll be installing GOG Galaxy as soon as it's available because I trust you.

IAmSinistar: Trying to join an open game, didn't pan out the first time but maybe I'll have some luck now. Though it will be bad luck for whoever's game I join, as I have no idea how to play yet. :)
That's something I'd like to know too, so it'd be much appreciated if you could post some info and rules. :-)
I would really appreciate a spare key, been looking forward to this !

First up, the game doesn't seem too technologically demanding, so hopefully the maximum number of people can run it without worrying about whether their PC/Mac can handle hit. Hopefully GOG will post minimum requirements at some point, if they haven't already.

Overall the game is a map with different locations you can travel to, connected by paths that control which ones you can reach in a single turn. Each location can have Investigations (quests and tasks) of one of the three colours (which I am interpreting as Combat, Fate, and Magic here). Some let you choose from multiple colours, some have only one, and a few have none but other special traits (such as automatically healing you).

Typically you can take two of six Actions each turn. Your choices are Travel, Fast Travel, Investigate, Develop, Special, and Heal. Travel lets you move to one adjacent map location. Fast Travel lets you move up to two locations away, but you have to draw a Foul Fate penalty card as part of the cost. Investigate lets you search out quests and events in your location. Develop lets you draw a Development card for use later. Special is your character-specific Action, such as charging up a spell or brewing a potion. Heal allows you to remove a Wound marker from one of your Actions, freeing it up.

The main goal is to accomplish the required number of quests with the most Victory Points in order to win the game. You can select your primary quest at the start, and I happened to choose one with a lot of Victory Points attached (16). My opponent choose the lesser one, but racked up a number of VP by accomplishing side quests. Your primary quest will have side quests that can be accomplished to add points, on top of the other quests you pick up along the way. (Be sure to cash those in before cashing in the primary quest itself - I didn't do that and missed out on an even bigger victory.)

As you accomplish tasks you acquire Proofs, also of the three different kinds. These are needed in order to finish your primary quest, and may be needed in other cases as well.

When traveling you will encountered enemies of three difficulty levels (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), as well as Foul Fate events that can impede you. Damage taken in combat results in Wounds and Serious Wounds, which are applied to the six different Actions you can take. Actions can also be cursed with a Foul Fate, which makes you draw another Foul Fate card whenever you use them.

The game seems more of a race rather than a direct conflict, as each of you are trying to finish your quests and get the most VP before the others. You can indirectly impede your opponents by strategically placing monsters and Foul Fate flags as the result of certain events, but these can just as easily impede you as well. There may be more direct ways of entering into conflict, but I did not encounter them in my one playthrough so far. :)

I am totally interested in trying this , tho I have nothing to give in return . With the keys being limited and all + me being a total stranger there is a very low chance of this happening but one can only hope.

yexiaobo: I DO HAVE AN IMPORTANT QUESTION:

AS MY FRIEND GIFTED THE WITCHER 3 PREORDER TO ME, WHO WILL RECEIVE THE BETA CODE FROM GOG?
Your friend will, same like the FPP codes and in general all bonuses added to the order.
Anyone able to see other people in the lobby?
I preordered The Witcher 3 on 6th june. Up until now, I haven't received the beta keys for The Witcher Adventure Game.
I read here they'll be sending the keys on 1st come-1st served basis. Since I preordered the game on day 1, what could be wrong ?

Thanks for attention paid!
