We were contacted by the rights-holder for Chessmaster 9000 over the weekend and were told to remove it from sale immediately; whenever such a situation arises, we are legally required to comply immediately, so it's not like we can warn you guys about it.

You should still be able to download your copy of Chessmaster 9000 from your shelf; if you're continuing to have problems, please do let Support know. That said, let me remind you to go ahead and make a local backup; there are no plans to remove this game from the shelf in the future, but then, we hadn't planned to remove it from the catalog either.

Apologies for the inconvenience and that it took two days to get back to you guys; I was actually taking a weekend off from the Internet (madness, I know!) so I only found out about this today.

MonstaMunch: The cost of downloading games can often exceed the cost of buying them, so generally I've just been buying games that I may or may not ever end up playing and only downloading them if/when I get around to playing them. I guess I'm going to have to change the way I buy games and only make purchases when I'm ready to download.

That's madness. I'd offer that we have never yet removed a game from availability to download for the people who bought it. That is no guarantee that we never will, of course, depending on the winding twists of the legal system in the endless future of time, but you're probably pretty safe at the moment.

wpegg: You may not be able to warn us about it, but you can tell us that you've done it (you being GOG, not you personally). Someone was able to pull the plug on it, that same person was surely able to drop a forum post saying they've done it, even if just to say that more information will be provided later.
Sadly, the person who removed the game from listing is, um, typing impaired and cannot use a keyboard.

I'll admit, I'm impressed what you can teach squid to do. >.>
