MonstaMunch: The cost of downloading games can often exceed the cost of buying them, so generally I've just been buying games that I may or may not ever end up playing and only downloading them if/when I get around to playing them. I guess I'm going to have to change the way I buy games and only make purchases when I'm ready to download.

That's madness. I'd offer that we have never yet removed a game from availability to download for the people who bought it. That is no guarantee that we never will, of course, depending on the winding twists of the legal system in the endless future of time, but you're probably pretty safe at the moment.
Indeed it is madness. It used to be a lot worse. Until earlier this year, I was paying $10 per 1GB, now it's $25 for 20GB/30 days (whichever comes first) which means most GOGs are now cheap to download.

I remember the frustration I went through when I paid $10 per 1GB to download Witcher 2 (you do the math), it took 4 days, then I realized after a few minutes of playing that the game gives me motion sickness and I can't play it (I was hoping there would be an isometric view option like in Witcher 1, which I'm fine with).

Still, between my crappy overpriced third world internet and my silly motion sickness, I guess I'm not the easiest customer to please. Can't blame anyone but myself for that I suppose.
Having a retail copy, I passed on buying it from GOG for years. Bought it from a weekend promo a few weeks ago on a whim. Lucked out on this one . . . ; P

I've spent a few dollars on chess sets over the years but the one I got the most use out of was a cheap 6 " x 6 " folding, magnetic travel chess game with tiny plastic pieces. Spent hundreds (thousands???) of hours playing co-workers at lunch time.

I don't see any threads about the removal of the game or any official news on Steam .

The internet is full of leaks and nutters, nobody could really complain if any kind of "advance notice" would have come up on such a site ...
Probably doesn't work that way. If it happens the third time in a row, even if they can't prove it, publishers will stop working together with GOG. And then nothing is gained...

I just hope it comes back. It was on my wishlist.

It's not the publishers that want games removed. It's always an outside source. It's not about what they like and not like, it is about legal liability. If a publisher wants a game removed from GOG because they want it that way, than that train already has left the station.
Dang, only Chess game on GOG I didn't own yet is gone... now I feel empty inside.
Ah crap, I thought about buying it when it last went to sale, but was low on money or something and wanted to buy it in the christmas sale.
I hope it gets re-released on another plattform.
