Well this is such a great idea. Try to Boycott GOG before you even know what regional pricing will affect. Is it really that hard to wait?

I'll wait and see what it affects, and even then I'll probably not boycott GOG. If I see a good deal, then I'll buy it. Simple.

Boycotts are good in theory but unless you get a good number of people behind it, it wont really do much unfortunately...

They've broken their promise and made themselves look doubtful and furthermore admitted they did it for money. They also semi-implied that their fight against DRM is to show the publishers they can make more money that way, rather than regards for customers.

Niggles: Boycotts are good in theory but unless you get a good number of people behind it, it wont really do much unfortunately...
It's your kind of people that make things like democracy worthless. If you don't stand your ground on your beliefs, you get pushed into the corner people want you to.

Then you should read a bit more critical, but first the "semi-implication"

"On top of that, you have to know that there are still many top-tier devs and publishers that are scared about DRM-free gaming. They're half-convinced it will make piracy worse, and flat pricing means that we're also asking them to earn less, too. Earn less, you say? Why is that? Well, when we sell a game in the EU or UK, VAT gets deducted from the price before anyone receives any profit. That means we're asking our partners to try out DRM-free gaming and at the same time also earn 19% - 25% less from us. Other stores, such as Steam, price their games regionally and have pricing that's more equitable to developers and publishers. So flat pricing + DRM-Free is something many devs and publishers simply refuse. Can you blame them? The best argument we can make to convince a publisher or developer to try DRM-Free gaming is that it earns money. Telling them to sacrifice income while they try selling a game with no copy protection is not a way to make that argument."

They don't outright say it, but they make it sound like they're doing the DRM-Freeness just for profitable marketing. We know that they give larger shares to indie developers than other online markets, why is this not mentioned about big publishers? Do they get larger shares everywhere? Or is it just gog.com trying to make a fortune?

And now on the regional pricing:

"Classic content accounts for about 80% of our catalog, so yes, this is a super important topic. We've mentioned here above that we can’t control prices for new games, but we do have a lot of influence when it comes to classic games. GOG.com is the store that made this market visible and viable digitally, and we're the ones who established the prices we charge. We believe that we have a good record to argue for fair pricing with our partners.

So let's talk about the pricing for classics that we're shooting for. For $5.99 classics, we would like to make the games 3.49 GBP, 4.49 EUR, 199 RUB, and $6.49 AUD. For $9.99 classics, our targets are 5.99 GBP, 7.49 EUR, 349 RUB, and $10.99 AUD. "

They do not promise these rates, it might be that the classics get just as overcharged, just like those new titles. Also, it proves that they will add regional pricing for pretty much every game on this site, for better or for worse.

Many publishers don't have much regard for their customers (see day one DLC). They are out to make money. DRM-free increases customer confidence which means more money, so everyone gets what they want.

My point is that gog.com doesn't have much regard for its customers either, my thought is that they do DRM-Free to make profit rather than being fair towards us, and they've proven my point with the most recent case where they dropped one of their most substantial values for some quick cash. Just think about it: What will the publisher do once he finds out gog.com's system gets bridged by crafty users using VPN to get cheaper prices for the games? Right, try to enforce region-locking/DRM. And given how gog.com has already once caved in to publisher demands for cash, we have no reason to believe it won't happen again.

"1World,FairPrice" fits just within the 16 character limit for the forum title which appears under your username. You can change your title by clicking the "My Account" menu and selecting "Forum replies" and then the "My settings" tab. Also, if you weren't aware of it, there is a wishlist "feature request" item you can vote for.

Let's try to get that number higher than Grim Fandango's!

The letter did far more for that number in a few hours than any talk about it did over these past few days. I mean, when I first looked today, it was at 703, after a few days. After I wrote the boycott post, so after several more hours, it was 777. Now it's 1021.

On another note, I do want to make it perfectly clear that boycotting them, and asking for others to do the same, does in no way imply wanting to see them bankrupt or otherwise gone. Quite the contrary, it's just because I don't want to see GOG gone, I don't want to see them weak and defeated... Yet in one major way it already is gone, and they have admitted defeat, and therefore weakness.

I don't know. Comments (and votes) say that many don't think this is the right response, but after thinking about it for these past days I disagree with that and think it is. I think it is a way to send a strong message and remind them that some of us are fighting those practices and those publishers as well, and that if we will continue this fight even without them, even against them if need be, then it's all the more clear that we will continue it alongside them, if they'll decide to return to their previous stance, to their principles.

At the same time, the timing of the Humble Store change as well makes me have this nagging feeling that there's something bigger at play here, something they're still not saying. Maybe It's "only" a coalition of publishers and retail stores making a push, complete with ultimatums, but may it also be some other court action, some high-level EU directive, or have something to do with the proposed European internet, forcing retailers to move away from transactions in USD as well, or quite the contrary, with the Trans Pacific Partnership... Just speculation, of course, but it is odd...
