I know Americans like stretching the meaning of words, especially "freedom", but come on.

When you rent a game you do indeed get the entire game for the rental period, so the difference is null, only difference is that this is digital not physical. It is exactly a rental.
In this case the tenant is the consumer/gamer and the landlord EA/Origin, and the property the game.
"Free" implies it will be your property, which it will not be, you will cease to have it after the allotted time, that's renting. Again when GOG actually gives away games for a certain period, they're yours forever, so they have the right to say "free" games.

It's basically weaslewording.

and "free to play for one weekend" implies that it will be.... free to play for one weekend....

Same reason that a court in the UK recently tried to force "Free To Play" games to remove the labeling of "free".

Why are you defending false advertising? The only reason they're calling it "Free" is to get people to sign up to their service.

My complaint is that the wording is misleading, and that it's deliberately vague, nothing else. The same reason "Free To Play" is used.
you do realise that "free rental" is an oxymoron?
Again it's just throwing the word "Free" up in the air to see if they can get people signed-up on Origin, nothing more.
EDIT: I'm done with this discussion.

If you really need to see it some other way, then consider it a free time limited trial, but definitely not a rental

I hope this is some kind of rhetoric angle I don't understand. I don't need to always feel smart, but where is the damn misleading part here?
