Elmofongo: I was the Avatar for video games
You were? =O

Getting back on topic.

Eh...sounds nice, but I'll pass (although I'll gladly try out Alice and Madness Returns if they were free).

Even free... this game is able to gain little interest from me. I'd rather buy a gog version! :P

Yes I am the Hero of Britannia. I am Sir Argronok the Avatar of all Virtues and Principles.

I have done may great and virtueous deeds including giving a begger 1000 gold 1 piece at a time.

I have recovered the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom from the Darkest Pits of the Stygian Abyss.

I overthrew the tyrant Blackthrone, destroyed the Shadowlords of Hatred, Deceit, and Cowardice, and Rescued Lord British

I broguht peace between the Races of Man and Gargoyle thus prevent all out war.

And I have sealed the Black Gate prevent the Evil Guardian from entering.

Hail Sir Argronok, the virtueous and greatest of all heroes!!

On Topic: Amazing what what typo can do.

Looks like they are also offering free game time for Kingdom of Amalur on Origin. Good deal if you can beat the game in 48 hours.

XYCat: It's not "free forever", it's a "free weekend".
avatar
Crosmando: Still, it sounds deceptive by it's very nature.
Why? It's a free access to a commercial game for a limited amount of time. Like your standard trial version in MMOs. And the only thing that's limited is just the time it's available for free, otherwise you get access to everything and if it's a game with singleplayer then you're pretty much free to try and play through the whole game during the free time.
It's a "free week-end" deal as Steam does each week for years now, it's not a revolution ^^
avatar
timppu: Does the Aug 14 deadline mean you need to download the game before that? Or also start the game before that? Or will the game cease to work after Aug 14, regardless of the timer?

Less than a week left, let's see if I have time to try it...
I think that's just the deadline for adding the game time card to your account; I haven't used the Titanfall one and it's still showing the game time as valid and ready to start.

Either way this is a much better approach than Steam's free weekends.

Because they're using the word "free" when in reality it is not free. Same as "free to play". Free would mean if you get it over this weekend, you own it forever, ie like when GOG makes a game free for a limited time.

With a trial the person knows what they're getting into, on Steam these "2 Days Left" games just appear on your account without explanation, without the permission of the user - it's just a big fucking advertisement slammed in your face.

The way EA is using this for media attention to pull users to Origin is misleading because they're not making it clear (or even indicating) that these games are not "free" and will be pulled from your account after the weekend.

And what exactly do you have to pay to play it for that particular weekend?

You have to pay for it, to own it forever, so it's not free. As I said "Free weekend" is intentionally misleading advertising, a more appropriate term would be "Weekend Rental" but they aren't using that term.

The rental is free.

"Free Weekend Rental" then. Or at least make clear that you will need to pay for the game after that time expires. The same way "Free to Play" is misleading if the game is not "complete" and actually does have paid content in it.

I know Americans like stretching the meaning of words, especially "freedom", but come on.

what's misleading about it? It's free for a weekend, it's not free forever.

because you are not renting it for a weekend, but it is free to play for a weekend.

Free implies freeware, which has it's own meaning. It's misleading wording.

When you rent a game you do indeed get the entire game for the rental period, so the difference is null, only difference is that this is digital not physical. It is exactly a rental.
