ne_zavarj: Can you play these games with mouse + keyboard combo ?
The original Red Baron can be played quite nicely using a KB. RB2/3D too, probably.
B-17 requires a joystick or an analogue stick gamepad. Some commands (ironically, gun aiming) can't be mapped to other forms of input.

Thanks .
This one is a toss up. Both are fantastic games, but luckily I own both.

Red Baron 3D is really the last worthwhile WWI flight game. It' s a bit more sim than it's predecessor but easy enough to like. Lots of fun with this one. And the original one was like crack, but a bit dated by today's dtandards

B-17 -2: The Mighty 8th is one of the best flight sims made by Microprose. It's a bit heavy (literally these planes are hard to fly) on the sim side, but the crew management aspects are really well done. You can pretty much autopilot the entire mission and just take charge of the gun turrets, bombardier, and navigator roles. This one plays more like a RPG, as you need to put out fires, and help injured crewmen throughout the missions. Work of art.

And a successor to a long a heck line of B-17 crew sims, starting with B-17 Bomber on Intellivision (Get Intellipack 3 to try http://www.intellivisionlives.com/download.shtml ) and continuing via 50 Mission Crush and First over Germany on C64.

Yes, funny shit happens in you autopilot the navigator and bombardier roles. Like AI whining "I don't know where we are!" over home base.
I voted for B-17 Flying Fortress.

This genre is definitely not my cup of tea. But if I can get the game for $2.39, I will give it a try.
Uuuu - formerly I wanted to vote for Flying Fortress (already played Red Baron looong time ago), but then I saw the Red Baron again...nostalgia...and I couldn´t resist voting for it :)

JMich: Voting for Red Baron because I don't have it yet, and also because I don't recall it being discounted (other than the Xmas sale).

Zoltan999: How to use quotes?
avatar
JMich: The quote system works with the tag quote for a "generice" quote, or quote_## to quote post number ##.
So, if you want to add a quote to post 15, you'd use (quote_15)text here(/quote), using brackets [ ] instead of parentheses ( ).
Thanks much JMich! Appreciate the lesson :)
Today, I throw my lot in with the RB. An awesome game. Time to fly those unfriendly skies. This is the fourth battle in which both combatants are already at home on my shelf. So I've decided to play each game that wins for a day. Crazy, I know.
Voted for Red Baron

No particular reason, though :P
Can't say I know either of these games :P

I wouldn't mind Might & magic 3 on sale
This might be the day that breaks my voting streak and I actually voted for the winner. It also happens to be the pair of games that interest me the least...

Seeing Red Baron made me remember how much I enjoyed Evasive Action's WW1 scenario so I voted for it.
