We've heard your requests about bringing the Atari games back on GOG's Holiday Sale, so we've kidnapped Santa, hopped on his sleigh and visited the Atari headquarters. Santa's charm and our "puppy dog eyes" expression convinced them to bring the Atari games on sale again until January 3rd! You can grab classics like [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/master_of_orion_1_2]Master of Orion 1+2, Total Annihilation, Outcast, One Unit Whole Blood and more with a 30% discount. Unfortunately that discount doesn't include the Hasbro licensed RPG titles.

If you bought any of the Atari games, that are back on sale, for full price during the last 3 days, email us at users@gog.com and we'll refund you the 30% discount after Holidays.

For the best savings you should also consider ordering Activision games soon as we're going to remove them from the sale on Tuesday, December 28 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Seems to me whoever is deciding to not put these games back on sale is missing out on a chance for a lot of goodwill and probably sales too.

I guess I just don't understand business.

SmashManiac: I'm sorry, you claim that this information was provided, but I believe it wasn't; it was not on the front page, not in the news release, and not on the promotion page either. And yes, I do always read all the details, so if this information was available, I have no idea where is was hidden.

So please, tell me how you knew that the Atari sale was supposed to end sooner than January 3rd.
The freaking huge banner on the right side of the sale page clued me in.

This worked great for me - having only seen this - http://img811.imageshack.us/i/holidaysale.jpg - in my inbox. Oh well, just means I'll have to wait another year until the games I want go on sale again - assuming they ever do, seeing as they were pretty much all specifically excluded with no reason given for this resale...

I'm still annoyed by this, if only because GOG have pretty much played the straight line on these kinds of things the whole time, and that's really why I love them.

Umm, you'll note I was responding to someone who claimed "I do always read all the details".

Seriously, buy one less D&D game, that's your discount right there. They were only 3 bucks off, expect TOEE which was a whopping 1.80 off. If they're "the games you want" why not just pay full price? It's not like 9.99 for the 60 hours you're going to pour into each one is a bad deal. If you had 50 bucks (or whatever that amounts to down under) to buy them all on discount then you only need to pare your selection down by one or two to spend the exact same amount.

Mentalepsy: It actually was on the promotion details page - on the right side, where the "Activision ends in 4 days" marker is now (at the time, it said "Activision begins in X days"). I saw it there myself, which is why I made my purchases over the weekend. This was, however, the only place that the information was given, to my knowledge (I actually didn't receive an email about the offer, but I gather it wasn't there, either).

I'm not taking sides, here. The details of the sale were mishandled, and I am sympathetic to people who missed out. I only said that I don't see why it's worth getting angry over. GOG is partly to blame here, but it's not true that the Atari games were pulled with no warning.

Holy cr*p, I honestly never noticed it before! Who would have thought that there would be an important one-line notice written with gray text over a lighter gray rectangle between the shopping cart list and the Twitter feed? Well now I know why I never noticed it: I thought it was part of the Twitter feed, so I completely overlooked it!

Personally I'm not really mad about missing this particular sale, but considering it's the 2nd time GOG does not clearly communicate to their customers what's going on (the first time being the fake site shutdown/reboot), I have no idea what they could do next and that is really a problem for me.

Anyways, thanks for the info guys! Very appreciated! :)

You're the guy who said he took care to read everything carefully and that it was "not on the promotion page either".

Also you said "So please, tell me how you knew that the Atari sale was supposed to end sooner than January 3rd. "

So, umm, yeah, that's how I knew. Since you read the same stuff I did, and carefully at that...

Simply spending less is not a discount. Besides, it doesn't make a lick of difference for people with huge backlogs to begin with, who would be better off waiting until the next sale.

It's not in one sense, but between waiting a year to get the only games he says he wants and just getting one less, which one makes sense? As I was saying, the discounts were not especially steep, 30% off a 5.99 or 9.99 game is not a huge amount of cash.

If you have a huge backlog, well then, don't buy more games if you don't need any more. The person to which I was responding said nothing to indicate he had a huge backlog, only that these games were the only games he wanted from here. With the information given it seems pretty silly to wait a year to get a shot at a 3 dollar discount on Baldur's Gate if one really wants to play it now.

I believed it wasn't on the promotion page, I never said that it wasn't on there, otherwise I wouldn't have asked my question in the first place.

But you're right, I should add an addendum: I read everything... that I actually notice carefully. :P
How about "anything with more than 3 dollar signs in a row" be added to the spam rule?
