EdwardB: I contacted my bank and they tried telling me at first that this was likely a scam organization. I explained that I have been a customer of this website for more than a year and that I never had these problems with my previous bank.
I was then told that the fee was likely because GOG was likely running my payment through as a debit/ATM transaction (thus, incurring and ATM fee and some foreign fees (and I did have some additional small charges).
So, the bank said that it is not their fault.
I don't suppose GOG has someone who could send my bank manager an email?
Hrm... I'll consult the "as a debit/ATM transaction" part with our payment service provider, but I've never heard of such a thing.
I also wonder about the "scam organization" bit. It may just be a script template that your bank's support folk recite for all but the biggest players in the online transaction business... We may be a relative newcomer, but our payment history has been nothing but stellar, so we should be in good standing with all but the most distrustful banks.
If you could PM me your bank manager's e-mail, I could contact him - if there's any person at GOG whose position is suited for such a task, it's me. I doubt your bank would change their policies regarding GOG just because I'm a nice guy via e-mail, though. No harm in trying, anyway! :)
Navagon: I'm not exactly recommending Paypal, but you don't get this crap with them. Just remember to set it up with direct debit and not leave any money in your Paypal account.
PayPal can be tricky here. Basically, if you use funds that are already on your PayPal account, you won't experience any problems. If you use a credit card through PayPal, you _may_ suffer from the same limitations as when you would use the card directly on the site.
