my first legend of zelda game was oracle of seasons. I still think the oracle games are very underrated with decent lore and characters, if a bit simple. The rings and secrets gave the player a lot of power and actually gave you opportunity to use them. the secret system itself was a bit clunky to use.
Other than that I really enjoyed the 3ds orcarina of time. Especially with Hero mode enabled. I enjoy the 3d dungeon crawling enough to keep playing remixed dungeons forever. Seriously wish they had though of that by skyward sword.
Skyward sword is fun to play, but not fun to beat. After watching the strawhatno's let's play I realized that the game is actually really fricken long. The dungeons are long, Upgrading takes time, there is a lot of backtracking, then the water dragon floods the forest and you have to beat the imprisoned for the umpteen billionth time all the while dealing with this Highschool musical plot going on at the academy and ARTGHGHTHGH.
But then I start using my sword to throw pumpkin's at keese and everything is k.
Trying to do everything in one sitting like you can do with some of the other games is just going to make you burn yourself out. Its also the first game that actually balanced money. Always had enough to spend it, always had something to spend it on. Most of the other games either made money too rare, or just didn't give you anything worth buying.
The original legend of zelda, Eh its okay. Its graphics and controls have aged horribly, but ZClassic can fix that. I need to get back into zclassic custom maps. There were some cool ones.
Zelda II is a pet peeve of mine, I like to play it, but I don't compare it to the others at all. I read a long detailed review on why Zelda II is the best of the entire series and that all the other zelda games were shallow copies that would never capture the soul of the original... It kinda turned me off to the game. While I enjoy the sidescrolling gameplay mixed in with the top down overworld, the rpg mechanics were unnecessary and encouraged just grinding, the lives made it a pain to accomplish anything and WHY WAS HIS SWORD SO TINY. Seriously. Faxanadu you start with a dagger TWICE as long as Links shanking knife. At least we have downstab.
Thats about all the game's I've played unfortunately. Mostly owned a playstation so I missed out on a lot of good ones.
