Microfish_1: ZFR, I love your avatar!
I know I'm from a "rebellious daughter country", but QE2's reign & longevity is something to celebrate!
Can I just say as an anti-monarchist Brit, it's totally bizarre to see people from around the world celebrating our unelected head of state. No offence meant, it's just never occurred to me that anyone outside of the UK would be a monarchist. LordCephy: I have a tea tin celebrating your unelected head of state's 90th birthday only because the only store in my area that sells double cream happened to be selling it in-store. The fact that it was even being sold here in the first place says that your monarchy is very marketable here for some reason.
I find that incredibly amusing! Tea tins are absolutely essential though, so even I would use one with the queen on in a pinch. I'd probably draw a Wario moustache on her or something though.HypersomniacLive

Is this still open? Not sure how much time (or energy) I can devote, but I think The Dig needs to be represented; Commander Boston Low reporting for duty.

No offense taken! I think the world-wide support for her has as much (or more?) to do with the person who is QE2 as the position. She's a gracious and kind lady, who has been a good "face" for the UK (from this American POV) for a very long time. This leads to a sense of stability, etc. (She also happens to look a lot like my grandma, whom I never met). o_O
[Incidentally, Robert Heinlein (in Double Star) had some interesting observations about the role a ceremonial head of state outside of politics. It's also a great and fun story in many ways. Also, it contains Scale Model trains. (As 800 Words' Big Mac (Peter Elliot) points out [paraphrased], "They are Scale Models, not toy trains." xD ) ]

We will forever be your boobs gang.

Personally I don't really have an opinion on her as a person, not having met her or really seen anything of what she's like as a person outside of "work" (i.e. by which I mean in public appearances she will be playing a role to an extent, like one would working in customer service).
I've not heard of the Heinlein story you mention, I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I'm definitely aware of the distinction train enthusiasts make when it comes to model railways not being toys though. :P

That reminds me of a joke. How are train to... scale models similar to boobs? They are intended for kids but dads play with them.

Unsure I'd join this one. A little bit of it is because last game wasn't nice to me, but more like I can't focus on one thing anymore. Hence why the observer thread is mostly Carradice (apart from ZFR stumping literally everyone).
