Elaborigen: Have I screwed myself too badly if I have killed all the guards in the starting town? I didn't know they would go away on their own... (please don't be too spoilery, I just want to know if I'd rather restart)

Luned: You have not made any errors, I just didn't want to give that bit away. :)
That's a huge relief
It's an excellent game! Really surprised me, since I wasn't expecting much. To me, it combines various aspects I liked about older RPGs and Action-Adventures, such as the old 2D Zelda or Diablo games.

I only bought the basic version, since I wasn't sure I would like it, but I will probably buy the upgrade as soon as I have some spare gaming funds.

One advise: Start on the lowest difficulty setting "Normal". I picked that one, and the game is still decently challenging. If you pick the higher difficulty settings things might get frustrating, so I'd save that for a possible second playthrough.

Also, if you run into an opponent which seems impossible to defeat, then you're probably supposed to go elsewhere first. The world is fairly open, with various sidequests and areas to explore.
