Is it worth the price? Whats the gameplay like? Story?

No comment on price, the game it self is pretty good.
A bit of a story, gameplay is good more stratigic as far as I'm concerned.
Hard. Highly strategic. Old school gameplay. Story, nothing to write home, but that's not that important as the gameplay is really good. Might be too slow-paced for some people.
I don't do impressions, I'm just a humble innkeeper.

And WTF is a imoression anyway? :P

Okay seriously, I just picked it up last night and it's tough. Got my ass killed countless times right at the beginning. Finally managed to figure out how to get into the town via the "1st fight" and while I won that fight, I lost most of my party which leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong.

I mentioned to someone in a PM that we need a 'Help/Strategy' thread in the Xulima forum because I'm getting tired of searching the Steam forums and most of those people are more interested in making fun of you for being bad at the game rather than actually helping.
I'm enjoying it, but it's a demanding game in the sense of keeping track of a lot of things at all times. You have to make a party that really covers all the bases and shore up each others' weaknesses; you have to think carefully about how to progress those characters, because you can't max all abilities easily; leveling is slow.

Xulima is a stingy game, and you have to get into that mindset. Nothing is easily come by: gold, food, equipment, experience. Food is a bit of a pain, but there's a grain field in the first village that regrows grain every couple of game days; harvest it every time you go to town and carry the grain around as emergency food reserves. Xulima doesn't reward risktaking; it rewards mindful and cautious gameplay.
As others have said, It's hard but rewarding. Resource management is the key.

Ummm, you have actually played it haven't you? :P
@tinyE and Soccorro: Why don't you check out the 2 hour long stream which should give you a good first impression how the game is like and how to play.

Yes, if you run out of food your party can't heal when they rest. Some food, like berry bushes, can be found growing in the wild (and will regrow after a set period). At level 7 the explorer can gain the Hunting skill, which allows you to harvest food from defeated enemies. Other skills allow you to travel faster across terrain, thus reducing food consumption.

You will be able to open up some portals for faster travel between areas as you progress in the game. There are also special crystals that will teleport you back into the first town as a one-way trip. You'll be able to find one early on the game; don't use it unless really necessary in the first few levels, because replacements are about 100 g.

Try to keep 100 gold on you at all times until the town guards go away for good (not spoiling the plot any further than that). You will have to pay them this sum about every 3 game days in order to enter (or leave!) town; in between, you can come and go at will. Using the crystals will get you into town, but you can't get back out without paying the toll if it's due. (If you're coming in broke, you can wait around in town long enough to harvest the grain field twice and earn enough to leave.)
Have I screwed myself too badly if I have killed all the guards in the starting town? I didn't know they would go away on their own... (please don't be too spoilery, I just want to know if I'd rather restart)

You have not made any errors, I just didn't want to give that bit away, since it's plot-related and I very much doubt a party could do it at the start of the game. :)
