frodziarz: Hi,

Is there any chance to preload the game (witcher 3) before the release date ?
I would like to download it few days earlier... 40GB its about 2 hours of downloading :)

And as far as I know, servers could be busy / offline @ release...

darthspudius: 2 hrs for downloading 40gb, that is absolutely awful. Seriously, try doing that at 1.6mbps, I'll be there for a while.
Well.. it's not that I was complaining about download speed or game size, I just really wanna to know about the GOG preload option :)

I remember, when I bought the Witcher 2 Collectors Edition with the Early Access (midnight) - ane there WAS some HUGE problem with 50MB file (download) and registration...

I don't wanna any suprises with W3 :)

I know the feeling, some idiot drilled through our phone lines which left me with a 200kbps connection when the The Witcher 2 came out. lol typical really.

rtcvb32: I get around 200k/sec
avatar
Tulas: I feel you man, 300k/sec here
Considering how fast it used to be with dialup at 5k/sec... honestly i don't see a problem with waiting 2 hours, or starting the download and going for a walk or going to bed or making and having dinner...

I keep thinking the newer technology is changing too fast. It's a serious problem.
How does preloading on gog work anyway?
Do they give you all the game files early and then have you download the executable upon release?

I see no other option.

I'm curious about this as well...this will be my first preorder on GOG instead of Steam.

I have only done kickstarter pre-orders before on gog but they didn't have any pre-loading whatsoever. I would be very pleasantly surprised if they do it for Witcher 3.
Judging by GTA V experience, pre-load itself wouldn't make much point, if the last stage of loading/unpacking will take more time than downloading everything else thrice. And since nobody else offered enough servers to mitigate peak load in first hours, (don't forget day 0 patch) I'm not sure CDPR will avoid all these problems.
I think we will able to download all the packed files except the installer executable itself. Or on other platforms the Witcher3 binary will be simply added by a last-minute patch. That way we can have 99% of the game long before the original release.
Strange thing is preload is already available on XBox One, and there's another month to go :l
I really hope they offer a preload for the game.
The only reason i ordered the game on gog instead of steam is that i want to support the devs as much as possible and that was was through gog. Since the steam drm doesn't inconvenience me in the slightest and doesn't make updates and patches happen as late and tedious as they do on gog i normally never buy something on here that's available on steam too.
It would suck to be punished for my desire to support the developers.

Too often? :P
Apparently the exclusive partnership with Microsoft has resulted in Early Access to The Witcher 3 pre-load on Xbox One. Still no information yet on when it will be available on PS4 and PC but I am guessing it will be sooner rather then later.
