Great, the console blaming game again.
Really they just overreached and now they're playing the blame game instead of just admitting they had to 'downgrade' in order to make their deadline and make the game run acceptable enough on regular machines in order to increase their sales.
Also you can't judge a game on the presentation model which only shows part of the game running on a monster rig, it's supposed to get you excited about the game and obviously they aren't going to show it running on a regular desktop.

darthspudius: That is on assumption those game play trailers had the same gfx and detail for the entire map. Which I bet it didn't.

stg83: Well that is indeed possible but it depends on the graphics engine as well as I mentioned in another thread. If the graphics engine is highly scalable then its entirely possible to make an open world game with options from low to very high graphic fidelity for a wide variety of configurations on PC, like for example the RAGE engine used in GTA V.
I hope they give us plenty of options to fuck with it. Nothing worse than being limite ie Farcry 3.

I guess we'll only find out once the game is released but I think there will be definitely more options then Far Cry 3 based on the previous example of Witcher 2.

It will be interesting to see one of those Digital Foundary indepth tech analysis for the Witcher 3 once its released to pin point the exact differences between all versions of the game on different platforms.
Guess its possible, though a little odd that a small site whose last post appears to be exactly 3 months ago has a reliable contact at CD Projekt RED willing to reveal sensitive information that goes against the message the company has previously put out.
Dumb question but why didnt they build around PC as main platform and downgrade to consoles?.

I call bullshit. I just read through this little interview(?) and the way it's worded it just doesn't strike me as a legitimate statement from someone at CDPR, especially while we're still in the hot pre-release phase.

In general, there could well be some truth to this whole "downgrade" speculation, but this particular statement seems fishy to me. Looks to me like they're just fishing for views/clicks, more than anything.

I think the general idea is that they only had time and resources to work on a single version, with only slight differences between the platforms.

Either way, if the PC version really isn't ( technically/visually ) up to the expectations of the fans, then I deem it highly likely that CDPR will make future improvements to it, especially if the game is a big commercial success.

xxxIndyxxx: ... The ps4 and xbox one are as far as I am concerned not powerful enough. We are very early in it's cycle and we will already see a lot of games having to compromise for them.
For what it's worth, the quality and performance of games generally improves as consoles "age" and developers learn to use their hardware to its full potential. Games like "The Last of Us" are amazing, considering the hardware limitations of the "old" consoles, and much more impressive than the early launch titles for the PS3 or 360.

Mind you, even the article tells us to take the "whole thing with a grain of salt."

Still, watching videos and actually playing the game is a different matter entirely -- I'm sure there are a number of us, myself included, who will be turning down some of the graphics options, so that the game runs properly.

I'm fairly sure it'll still look good though, but I'll have to reserve judgement until release day! :-)
sounds like gameworks stuff was a casualty here.

I no longer have any negative sentiment toward the downgrade! cheers to the downgrade!

I especially like the last name of the guy who wrote the article. I think there should be some sort of hoaxception when a guy named "Ihtsham" writes an article like this.
