So first there was no downgrade, now CDPR admits the downgrade and explains why there's one?
Really, CDPR, you screwed up some things with Witcher 3, and I'm not referring to the downgrade.
I've been saying it for a while. All a bunch of liars.

I think they'd rather avoid admitting that they downgraded, though the parity has been known for a while, which is a shame. I guess the physical release deals stated that they should get the console versions out at the same time so they went with the terms of a console instead terms of their vision and pc.

Although this is a rumour which should be taken with a grain of salt, the lack of real PC screens is worrying, and I'd personally would like to see the Live game, before condemning CDPR, albeit the evidence is showing beyond reasonable doubt.

I wonder if they would release the 2013 assets rumoured in your link as a mod, so PC gamers could mod the game to closely resemble the original vision.

Saddest part is that they are either unable or unwilling to state what is the truth behind these matters.
Kind of jumping to conclusions really.
What may happen in a year or two is that a newer version with updated graphics will come out. That is my hope anyway.

The real bad part in my eyes is this:

"The PCs themselves had more than enough power to achieve this vision, almost certainly. But working on the game across 3 platforms did not make it feasible to keep features included that could potentially break the game as we kept building around it."

Basically they say that developing for consoles hurts developing for PCs. What a shame. Witcher 3 is an inferior product because of stupid, low performing consoles.

And they also kind of cheated in 2013 I would say. But well, I never pre-ordered, so what is it to me? Some PC gamers will get a worse experience than necessary because of consoles but apart from this it might still be a good game.

I am not as optimistic and I don't think there will be any enhanced edition this time for the very reason the game was not allowed to reach its full potential in the first place. the consoles. If CDPR had worked on the PC port independently like how GTA V was done then there would have been a chance. The only thing we can hope for now is that modders will are able to enhance the game on PC eventually.

It was not allowed to reach? You're assuming they had enough hands to do it in the first place.

My hope is that the game is actually miles better than Dragon age: Inquisition storywise and is a well optimized in PC (and would get released already).
All the reviews are in PS4 so I don't really know squat about PC version.

Downgrade? You don't say, no wonder I thought it looked a bit like Gothic 2. =P

It's also a feedback loop. If they would have invested more money (hands) into the PC version to make it look better, they might have been able to sell the game now for a higher price or more copies of it to PC gamers (because graphics is more stunning, blood in the water, smoke particles, ... how cool is that) and made even more money in the end, despite of investing more in the beginning.

It's all a business decision though. But it's also sad to hear they are staying below what PCs are capable of because consoles have too weak hardware compared to PCs. Basically where is the advantage of having a PC then? And who will ever get to see their vision if they cannot realize it because of slow consoles? Isn't that a pity and real drawback?

I don't need to assume as CDPR's own earlier gameplay footage is evidence enough and I would have been fine with the PC version being delayed if the resources were indeed limited for specific development on it. I am not saying its the end of the world or that the game will be unplayable for me as graphics certainly aren't everything, just that it is disappointing.

Another reason why there won't be an enhanced edition is because CDPR will be busy developing the announced expansions for The Witcher 3 now.

That is on assumption those game play trailers had the same gfx and detail for the entire map. Which I bet it didn't.
There is a downgrade but that's the price of early reveals and consoles. We have to have all the info we can as fast as possible so when they show something really early they try to show something good because you don't wont to turn people off. When I saw the first trailers I thought there was no way the consoles could run this and I even had doubts for 95% of the pc's. When I saw the latest trailers I saw the downgrade (it still looks good, the seem to use different style that is less demanding which is totally different to let's say watch dogs) and thought that's looks more like it will actually work. It's the price for this industry to be obsessed with graphics and open world at this point (AAA certainly). They could probably make games like doom (small contained levels) that looks unlike anything we have seen before but they want this quality and throw in the biggest possible open world. And worst of all this seems to get priority over gameplay and framerate (28fps seems to be enough for developers, getting 30 is a bonus, getting 30 overall is perfection and trying to get 60fps means "cutting into the vision" so let's not do that or try a different solution...)

The ps4 and xbox one are as far as I am concerned not powerful enough. We are very early in it's cycle and we will already see a lot of games having to compromise for them. That's why I said from the start they weren't ready for new consoles. Most gamers and developers were ready the people who made the consoles aren't. It was a good step though because how they are build (they are basicly pc's now) because if they follow this path the next batch of consoles won't take years to develope and launch with outdated hardware. They will simply need to update the hardware.

DISCLAIMER: this is my personal view and not really backed with any data or evidence ;)
So in short, it's all because of the consoles are a bunch of weak hardware, nevertheless I don't regret buying the game. First and foremost gameplay, story and bug free game is what I care about.

Well that is indeed possible but it depends on the graphics engine as well as I mentioned in another thread. If the graphics engine is highly scalable then its entirely possible to make an open world game with options from low to very high graphic fidelity for a wide variety of configurations on PC, like for example the RAGE engine used in GTA V.
