Sportscar GT without licensed content?

That would mean a car racing game without cars.
They would probably release a 'very unofficial community' patch to bring them back, like the Porsche's and Ferrari's in GT-R 2, but still.

Anyway, what I expected, gog continuing its death house policy.

Thought I would get that in before anyone else.

Ricky_Bobby: In theory perhaps, but:

can the average person become an F1 driver ? no, I hardly think so.
can the average person pilot an Airbus A330 ? no, don't think so either.
can the average person pilot a large cargo ship or yacht ? well, no.
can the average person emigrate to the US and make a living as a truck driver in California ? perhaps, but tricky.
can the average person buy a McLaren 650S and drive it around Nürburgring ? nope.
what about driving the ÖBB 1116 mega train across Austria ? possibly, but very tricky.

Doing these things in real life is actually not that easy.
Ditto. Moreover, that stuff in real life takes a lot of effort, also most of the time it would involve very boring, repetitive tasks in training and as a professional. Some sims and strategy games (surely not all) might allow the player just a glympse of the complexity of what it is to be in the shoes of someone else, be it a ruler, a general, or whatever. In an entertaining way. That is part of the magic of games.
I'll have to say, i don't really see much use in simulators.

Simulate driving a train, or truck....
Simulate growing food and selling it
Simulate being a surgeon...

I can see the 'Build your own PC' or 'Repair your truck' since that may have actual life stuff that transfers over (notably what goes where), but farming or driving, you could just do it for real and get paid for it, so i don't see the point.

Surgeon and hospital on the other hand... Back in 1995 or so i was given a package to try which was intended for hospital staff. A lot of it came down to orders of sanitation and certain order of operations, who gets priority etc; Which someone could do in order to familiarize without reading dry SOP papers on the matter. (Oh and the 'don't give X-rays to someone who's allergic to Shellfish' for some reason... Or was that life and death 2?)

Simulators do seem like they would be better as training and less as games.

I can't actually see the appeal of something like PC Building Simulator, I know nothing about the game other than the name but does feel nothing but a advertising platform. The game is either a fugly PC case christmas light simulator (aka RGB) or like any other boring management game with built in advertising, can't see it any other way.

Don't see the appeal of long distance Truck driving simulator either, but I guess some people find it relaxing or something.
TBH if I play such a game, after 5 minutes will trying to ride the truck on "2 wheels only" or something like that.

But I see your point, racing games are used by many people that actually race and tune vehicles to learn track layouts (Isle of Man and Pikes Peak are well known exemples), even if a racing car game has nothing to do with real life (let alone other vehicles such as bicycles or motorcycles).
As someone previously stated very few people can actually ride a F1 car/Moto GP bike properly, most of us won't even get the F1 tires up to temperature correctly and probably faint out after a few laps without proper training... But that doesn't mean I would not enjoy a couple of laps at my own pace :D

Not sure why, as all games, not just simulators, are about experiencing something, especially something you don't or can't do, for all sorts of reasons ... and also escapism for many, into a different world.

As is often the case, fantasy is better than the reality, and games in most cases are pure fantasy, and often eschew the mundane realities.

Look at rF1. By default it's just unlicensed content. There is Monza but called another way. The NASCAR have fantasy names, ...

But it's still a very playable sim. And you can just install any mod to get certain categories (ex : GT3, F1, ...).

I don't see an issue with that.
I don't think GOG has even a single train simulator now that I think about it.

Train games are not my thing, but offhand we have Railway Empire Complete Collection, Railroad Tycoon series, Transport Fever, Ticket to Ride, Bounty Train, Sid Meier’s Railroads, Train Valley, Train Fever, The Train, Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion, bunch of actions with prominent train involvement and tangentially related Train Station Renovation... that's hell of a lot, and I surely missed a couple, prolly more, as they're not exactly my gig and might not have "train" or "rail" in their name.
Yep, I have most of those and there would be others, though maybe not limited to just trains, like the free OpenTTD.

They are all tycoon games though, I'm talking real simulators like the old Microsoft one from 2001.

Wouldn't say all, when some of those don't have any tycoon elements to speak of, aside from choosing a route and shovelling coal if you want to be picky, but yeah.

I don't even know if there's a lot of strictly train driving games out there that are really good though.... Old Train Simulator, recent Dovetail's series and that Japanese multi-track drifting meme game? I'm sure there's a lot or train simulation programs, but I don't know if they're any good as games for someone that isn't a hardcore train fan.

Anyway, Dovetail's got Microsoft and EA roots, so they might be as reluctant to release anything here, but wouldn't hurt to contact them if you really want those sims here.
