Lucumo: Does that say something about the games or does it say more about you though?
Darvond: I have 424 games of which I've attained over several years. Thing is, a little advertising goes a long way. Slime Rancher, CSD, the revival of the Shantae series, most of those wouldn't have gotten far without much in the way of word of mouth.
Have you heard of Running with Rifles? I hadn't either, until someone revived the ages old thread, only for it to turn out it was a 5+ year old game that never once I had even heard of or seen, neither on video or streamed.
The thing is, with the overabundance of games, advertising something becomes really hard. So either you invest a lot of money which may yield no return or you are lucky, hit a nerve and people talk about your game everywhere (in the case of Stardew Valley for example).
Like I said, that might just say more about you. Generally, when people create threads to mention that GOG rejected X, it has good ratings elsewhere. Personally, I would be above the ¾ mark you mentioned for yourself but that is because I don't pay any attention to other stores or any social media. As such, I pretty much don't know about indie games unless they get their own thread somewhere (a gaming forum I frequent used to have someone that always highlighted worthwhile indies) or they are popular on streaming services (like Slay the Spire). Of course, then there are other people that frequent these stores and hang around on Twitter and such and they are very familiar with what's good, despite it having very little exposure. And the unfortunate part is always that, from the popularity alone, one can never gauge how good a game is.
