Lone3wolf: Hi, I'm Lone3wolf, and I'm a gog-addict :\
Greetings Lone3wolf, and welcome to gogoholics anonymous.

Lone3wolf: Didn't Gog say they were spreading the Atari-Hasbro releases out until Christmas?
I remember "over the next few weeks", could be wrong though.

MischiefMaker: What really pissed me off was that it would delay the re-release of Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic for weeks. Now that's looking like months.
avatar
Mentalepsy: That hardly seems likely.

GOG has reigned in their "coming soon" announcements after unexpected delays saw some titles sitting on the list for months, and they knew very well when they announced Age of Wonders that the Hasbro releases were imminent. I expect that the remaining Hasbro titles will be staggered with other releases over the coming months. If they don't release one of the Age of Wonders games next week (probably AoW 2), I'll be a bit surprised.
Look, excuses excuses, but I'm just pointing out that GOG no longer has a monopoly on the DRM-free oldies market. I've been a loyal customer for 2 years and more than a little fanatic in its support on other forums. BUT, the PR stunt and the incessant delays have really been opening my eyes to how GOG has been able to jerk its customers around thanks to no competition in its market niche.

AOW:SM is already out there on impulse. Impulse's stupid steam-lite is the only thing keeping me from taking my business to them.

With gamersgate providing all the same services as GOG and not sitting on its old-game licenses for weeks on end, the time may be coming soon that GOG won't have the luxury of stretching out its game releases. Prompt release is a much more important bonus to me than avatars and concept art.

You're entitled to be annoyed at the release timeline. I want Shadow Magic, too, but to claim that the end-of-beta downtime has clearly caused a delay of several months in the Age of Wonders series when it was only announced two weeks ago today is jumping to a rather unwarranted conclusion.

"Coming soon" generally means "coming in 2-4 weeks." You know that.

It is an unwarranted conclusion. That's why I didn't come to it. My conclusion was that the PR stunt, by knocking out a release Tuesday, would delay Shadow Magic for weeks. It did.

I said that the PR stunt, PLUS GOG's 1-2 titles a week release policy could extend the delay into months. Baldur's Gate and Planescape bumped it back another week. "Who is Dr M" presages some title next Tuesday that is not AoW 2. It very well could be a month or more past the Impulse release that GOG finally deigns to release Shadow Magic.

Why do the GOG loyal have to put up with delay after delay while the Impulse customers are enjoying the game right now? Because GOG has a monopoly on its niche and can do whatever it wants.

That's what really rankles about this PR stunt. Here we are sticking up for GOG for 2 years as the little David against Steam's Goliath and they turn around and cut the servers without warning and leave an "Oops, we went out of business!" message because they know they can take their customers for granted. Where else are we going to go?

Hopefully competition from gamersgate will put an end to this.

They already released AoW1 and their normal release schedule with trilogies is one after the other. There was nothing outrageous about expecting Shadow Magic the following Thursday.

I think we are using different definitions of 'delay.'

If you're saying that the AoW games have had a delayed release on GOG as compared to the release on Impulse, then yes, that's true (obviously). If you're saying that AoW has slipped further down GOG's internal release schedule than was originally planned, there's no reason for us to think that.
I am a little surprised...was expecting one of the Age of Wonders sequels to show up today.

It's October. Soon be Christmas :P (Mind you, I say that in January, too :D)
It's now Sunday. GOG you're three days late on your Thursday game. Where is it. I haven't slept. I still have my credit card out. Where is the game.

the_voivod: I've bought nine games in seven days. It's reasonable to assume I have a problem.
I bought 13 in one!

Unless you work at Valve :)
Okay where the hell is Tuesday's new game?
You would think if GOG wanted to make up for their stupid PR stunt they would ACCELERATE their release schedule instead of up the delays.

Maybe in the meantime you can content yourself today with a $6 DRM-free copy of X-Com off gamersgate.

1$=1€ ? passing
I already have X-com. I want a gog game.. Gog you guys are really not bright sometimes.
Hey guys, remember when they said last week when they implied we would be getting something cool on Thursday (and it didn't happen), and now we apparently aren't getting a game today either?

What's with all the blue-balling?
