I know, but I don't want any really dangerous weapons like gun to be legal on my country (and fortunately we are in a majority here to not want this). From what I see on the news in the US instead seems almost a right to have a gun. (but I could be wrong, after all I've never been in the United States, and I usually do not care much... I was only really surprise when I heard that in us they selling guns in supermarkets).

JMich: Again, think of software that must write a very specific sequence of bits on your HDD/BIOS to update it (whether for security reasons or usability ones). If one bit is off, your HDD/Motherboard will be bricked. Would you as the provider of said software allow it to run without double and triple checking that the integrity is correct, or would you have self validate, and refuse to run if validation fails?
Again, think about software that is not so critical like for example GOG games. Do I want highly encrypted, heavily guarded software that refuses to run if validation fails or do I want software that runs and a hash value where I can if I want to check the integrity but if I don't want I just don't do it? I choose the later (always) because I guess that I trust myself more than anyone else. Is that naive? I highly doubt that.

I guess by now it has become very clear what you mean and what I mean.

It's not. In this specific example (GOG Games), such measures are overkill, and most likely not needed. But saying that no DRM-Free software needs such measures is what I call naive.

No worries either way though, and I do think we've derailed this thread enough (cue cries of "Never!").

Why do you think that? Last time I checked the author of the Unofficial Patch was asked a few months ago if he would be alright with the Unofficial Patch being included in a future GOG release.

I really want this game to release here on gog and telling myself "dont get your hopes up" really helps lowering my expectations. :)
Else Id check different sites for news on a daily basis. :/
