Acquire your taste for the jRPG.

It’s the second edition of our brand new promo format, the Weekly Staff Picks. This time around we’ve decided to highlight a pretty new, but extremely welcome, addition to the GOG.com catalogue: jRPGs. They say the genre is an acquired taste, and it looks like many of the GOG staff have it - well now it’s your turn with our Japanese Roleplay. Three noteworthy titles of the Japanese persuasion will be discounted up to 75% in this fantastic deal lasting until Thursday, January 15, at 10:59AM GMT.

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector’s Edition, also known as Record of Agarest War, is an absolutely unique storytelling concept in games: the story of Agarest spans a lengthy five generations of protagonists. The game’s Soul Breed system gives you the opportunity to influence each future generation of fighters as your offspring inherits the best of what you, and the partner of your choice, have to offer. There is no better time to check out this outstanding game than now, for a whopping 75% off.

Though Japanese in spirit only, Pier Solar and the Great Architects is quite literally a modern classic and currently available 50% off. Originally developed for the Sega Genesis, you’d think it was the oldest of our three promo titles. In reality, the game was released in 2010 on the long forgotten system and successful enough that it was eventually ported (and remastered) to nearly every modern gaming platform you can think of, including Windows, Mac and Linux. Pier Solar and the Great Architects is still an oldie at heart, and with the HD remake available on GOG.com you can even pick between a fresh new coat of paint and the original pixely goodness.

Finally The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky at a -30% discount, is one highly-rated piece of a well known RPG series which started out as early as 1989. Trails in the Sky, is just a small portion of the extensive, six chapter, Legend of Heroes saga. This one is a must-have for all jRPG fans on GOG.com.

These three unique titles are a great start for anybody looking to get into jRPGs, and must-haves for fans already among us. The Japanese Roleplay Weekly Staff Pick will last until Thursday, January 15, at 10:59AM GMT. If you missed the news last week, The Weekly Staff Picks are replacing the Monday and Wednesday Gem Promos, bringing you more discounted games each week and more time to pick your favorites.

ixbt25i: Umm, "Gem Promo" was synonymous with "some visibility for obscure games nobody's buying". But wasn't the "Trial In The Sky" thing quite popular? What's the idea behind this new concept? Selling more than just one game at once? Why the name change then?
GOG explained last week there is an ongoing sale format change. "The Weekly Staff Picks are replacing the Monday and Wednesday Gem Promos, bringing you more discounted games each week and more time to pick your favorites."

Agarest: CE for $5? I shall now proceed to facedesk and grind in the real world with the hope of getting it before Thursday! :P
Well, this promo should be called "Weekly Staff Picks: Agarest Needs Badly Some Sales Edition". Perhaps you should have included these titles too:

- Septerra Core
- Sudeki

I already bought Trails in the Sky at nearly full price, it's definitely worth it.

Perhaps you do some sort of counterpart staff pick:

"Weekly Staff Picks: Hidden Roleplaying Gems Edition"

which contains nothing from the more popular games (I mean nothing from AD&D, Divinity, Grimrock, Deus Ex, Witcher, Ultima, Might & Magic, Spiderweb, Lands of Lore, Shadowrun, Sacred stuff), but more "obscure" titles, straight taken from the RPG section:

- Nox
- Anachronox
- Vampire the Masquerade games
- Krondor games (Betrayal & Antara)
- Stonekeep
- Arx Fatalis
- Darklands
- Ishar 1-3 (aka the Compilation)
- Dragon Wars (not yet on GOG)
- Kult (aka Chamber of the Mutant Sci-Princess) (not yet on GOG)
- Tunnels'n'Trolls (not yet on GOG)
- Anvil of Dawn
- Lords of Midnight + Doomdarks Revenge
- Thunderscape (though AD&D, its a more obscure title)
- Entomorph: Plague of the Dark Moon (AD&D, but a obscure title)
- Challenge of the 5 Realms
- Dark Sun 1+2 (not yet on GOG, but deserve a place here)
- Ravenloft 1+2 (not yet on GOG...)
- Dragon Wars (aka "Bards Tale 4 inofficially", not yet on GOG...)
- Wizardry Trilogy (1 + 2 + 3) (not yet on GOG, but please include the japanese remake )
- Wizardry IV: The Return of Werdna (not yet on GOG, but is said to be the hardest RPG ever)
- Wizardry V (not yet on GOG, but should be here)

Take your pick, GOG.

Well, just one bunny and its dreams ... :)

The way things are, I find it more probable that GOG will add Bethesda as a partner, than Arx Nosalis ever getting a sale.
Oo, it's been a while since I've seen a spambot make it to the forum. Quick, someone gift it Torchlight. ;)

EDIT: And the GOG Lords expunged it in the time it took me to post. Nice work!

i own Arx Fatalis on here, and it is part of my HUGE unplayed backlog collection... i pretty much ONLY buy on sale, so at some point it was either bundled in a promotion, or in a Gem Promo before...

Falci: I was eager for Trails in the Sky, but unfortunately it's not the right discount at this particular time.
Same here.

As opposed to the games in the sale, neither of those are Japanese. Though they may look Manga-like and/or behave as Japanese RPGs usually do, both of them are developed by western companies and thus are not strictly JRPGs.

Does this mean that Arx is seldomly seen on sale?
I already bought it cheaply on disc, and it plays very well on Linux. I am enjoying it a lot. I was looking for a promo to get a copy from GOG.
Seems like I shouldn't wait staning, then...

That could be epic! :-)
I would be so on board!...

Last time Arx Fatalis was on sale was January...
... 2013.
Wanna buy Trails in the Sky, but lack both the funds and time for now...maybe next time.

Already have Agarest for what it's worth.

Pier Solar is not Japanese-made either. This is why coffeecup suggested those other titles.

I was mistaken then, apologies.
