Grargar: I prefer my scenario. :P
I think GOG actually owned the real dragon sphere, and used its powers to keep the game free for longer! :)

Kaen0001: I wonder why the difference in price between Steam and GoG on the Tropico 5 Complete - Steam was $9.99 over their summer sale, but GoG continues to be $16.99. Why is GoG almost twice the price? [...]
Because products go on sale for different prices in different stores at different times?

It's not on sale at Steam now, so the $15.99 (not $16.99) they're charging on GOG right now is cheaper than the $39.99 on Steam (which is good for those who missed the Steam summer sale, or didn't notice the game in it, or whatever).
I would imagine the reason that it hasn't been that cheap here yet is that it hasn't been sold here for as long as it has on Steam. And, since not everyone shops on Steam, $15.99 might seem a pretty good price for someone who'd been waiting to get it DRM-free. :)
How is the Cultures series? Is it similar to Settlers?

HunchBluntley: GOG apparently had a contract with Atari regarding the game which didn't expire until the end of 2015, and apparently the new owners of the game were required to honor that for its duration.

I prefer "My Sharona". :P

My Bologna? :)
The Tropico complete 5 is £12 and the upgrade is £10?

Am I missing something here? Why is the upgrade cost practically the same as buying it from scratch?

paladin181: I thought Dragon Sphere was free?... They're charging $5.99 for it now? When did that happen?

skeletonbow: When the publisher of the game decided they wanted to start charging money for it to make a profit. Presumably a lot of old games are given away because publishers don't think they have any monetary value, and later they see that zillions of ancient games are being sold for $2/5/10 and making a profit out of basically thin air. If I owned the IP for an old game like that and had been giving it away for free in this gaming economy, I'd be charging $6-10 for it now too or someone would have to take me to get my head examined. :)

I can't fault any game publisher from starting to charge money for games they've given away for free previously. Not like they ever had any obligation to ever give them away for free or anything after all. Another positive thing it potentially does is perhaps make them consider bringing other games they own the IP for back from the dead and re-releasing them, or even doing remakes or remasters if there seems like there is an interest.

Many people are still waiting to hear the E3 announcment of Dragonsphere 2. That very well could be funded by the sales of Dragonsphere... Just some food for thought! :)
Thats all well and good…but iI know why they might do it. I was genuinely confused as to the when of it all, as I didn't remember it happening despite buying the Duke Nukem games in that promo.

IronArcturus: But is the game still playable without the addon? Does it just add more buildings or more missions?
Yes very playable. Even if you get the addon, you will probably play through the normal version first. The addon replaces buildings with modern versions in new missions and stories.

Sounds interesting!

Also, have you tried that "Cultures" series? Is it any good?
Think I tried it when it came out, one of the many Settlers clones at the time, pretty good.
As has been asked for many times:

There should be a mechanism at checkout that grants ownership of a bundle when either all components are purchased or the last unowned item in the bundle is purchased, and a retroactive fix for current owners.

The sale page offers me TROPICO 5: COMPLETE COLLECTION and OMERTA: CITY OF GANGSTERS GOLD EDITION despite owning all component parts of both.

It's only going to get worse as time passes; during the larger sales we'll have dozens of things we already own being offered to us.

tfishell: Pajama Sam!

Still missing the rest of the Humongous games though, and I doubt we'll be seeing them any time soon. :( Oh well, you can buy them on Steam, and they'll technically be DRM-free.

omega64: If only they had the Dutch audio here like they do on Steam. :l
I would actually buy them right now. I'll just wait...
Finally got a response from Retroism, but it's bad news with no explanation. :-(

"Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, through GOG.com our Pajama Sam titles only have audio available in English. Currently there are no plans to expand the language selection on GOG.com. German, Dutch and French audio would be available downloading the titles through STEAM.com. "

I'll send a message to GOG support too but I don't think either party really cares, as the bulk of the money must have been made on Steam and through Humongous Humble Bundle.

Jeez, don't really feel like buying them anymore. >_<
Thank you for trying.

That's just sad and...silly. Some developers (or shops?) just don't care enough.
